Ouran High School Host Club starts off with very typical characters and setting; a special highschool for the rich, the charismatic high schoolers lead by the MC who's something like a king, and of course, the female lead who is somehow disadvantaged and has to get along with the host club members. It begins with simple stereotypes and funny casual moments where we get to see the group dynamics and how they interact with one another and also with the outsiders who don't make up the main group. What's special about this anime though is how they managed to show an in-depth look into the individual characters in the host club. We learn how Kyouya had been with respect to his family and upbringing and how he had changed along the road, we find out why the twins never had any other friends, why Honey and Mizu are always so close together and how Tamaki had enriched their lives and shown them new perspectives even after everything that he had been through himself. The magic of this anime lies in the character developments which they go through, and how everyone truly found out what they wanted to do and chose their paths. It was done in a gradual and steady manner without disrupting the flow of the anime overall, and so the watchers were not forced into accepting things for the sake of the plot but we're enriched by them instead. Also, the fact that every character was considered important and not simply an extra is another specialty I can pick out for this anime.
I had loved the comedy, slice of life-ness and romance in this anime. It is over the top, and also unrealistic, but somehow the realness of human relationships were brought out in between episodes.
