Story: 7/10.
I love Tokyo Ghoul for its ability to tell both sides of a tale. It all really comes together. It teaches the reader that no person or motive is black and white. I also think the author has a brilliant use of characters. Almost everyone in this series comes back again, to a fault. Some characters really just need to die and stay dead.
I almost detest the final arc of this series. It leaves a bad taste in one's mouth. You are tired of the fighting and hopelessness. It only made sense in the "what the actual fuck" sort of way. Everything really goes to hell in the last volume. I love the development Amon and Kichimura Washu get, but those are the only likeable things about the end of this series. Tokyo Ghoul was never meant to be a series that ended with a nice little bow. It is hard to say that Kaneki should have died, when if you look into his characterization toward the end he was meant to live for other people.
Art: 10/10.
This is a easy category to fill. Sui Ishida has a brilliant way of capturing emotions in their artwork.
Characters: 8/10.
I say this only because, to me, some characters were just butchered by the end of this series. Look at Mutski as an example. All this effort was put into developing his madness, and that was suddenly thrown away? For What? He showed a selfish unrelenting desire for Kaneki to be his alone, but he put that aside for characters he had already disregarded.
I have another issue with many characters losing their own motives and simply becoming facets of Kaneki's will. It seemed so unlike them.
Enjoyment: 8/10.
I can say, with absolute certainty, that no series has ever made me feel such strong unwavering emotions.
Overall: 8/10. I don't know that I would recommend this to many people with how i feel about the finishing arc, but this manga has a way of devastating the reader.
