This is one of the last of Hayao Miyazaki's work. When people talk Ghibli they probably say My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited away or Howl's Moving Castle just to name a few. While I think those movies are absolutely amazing and timeless classics there is something about this movie that has a special place in my heart. While it does not have the magic and imagination as the other Ghibli movies it still stands as a fantastic movie.

Story 9/10

The story is about a Japanese plane designer named Jiro Horikoshi which was a guy that actually existed. He was most famous for making the Mitsubishi A6M. A war plane that was used a lot by the Japanese in World war 2. Through out this movie we see his entire life and his personal struggles. I think the story is interesting because the guy actually existed and it's cool to learn about him. Miyazaki put some of his own imagination to make the story more interesting and I really like it. It also shows Japan back when WWII was in motion and about the Japanese economy.

Art 10/10

The art is just as amazing as the other studio Ghibli movies. Beautiful backgrounds and memorable character designs. Some scenes where there are multiple things moving must have taken so long to make. I have huge respect for Ghibli for taking so much time to make such amazing animation.

Sound 9/10

The sound effects in this movie are so charming. The airplanes have very strange sound effects but that's what makes them so special to me. The soundtrack is also so good. Especially the main theme and the credits song. I tear up when I heard the credit song.

Characters 8/10

I like the characters. In this movie Jiro goes into these dream sequences where he dreams about his idol that inspired him to make planes and the conversations they have are some of my favorite moments in this movie. The other characters are good too but I don't really have anything special to say about them.

Overall 9/10

This movie deserves equally as much appreciation as the other Ghibli movies. From the story to the animation to the music. It all clicks so well to make an amazing movie. It may not have the magical worlds we are used to from Ghibli but this movie is still so special
