Mild Spoilers are in this review
This film was the first ever anime movie I watched in cinemas. It was surprisingly empty, however that just made sure that there were less people who saw my tears.
The ending of the story of Violet Evergarden was good, however I can understand the disappointment of some viewers when watching the ending of the film. I'll won't spoil it however after digesting the ending and watching the 2 seconds of a end-credit scene (make sure you watch until the credits stop), I felt that it wasn't that bad.
The story was split up into three different parts, one being about Violet and the Major, and the other being like another episode of the season and finally a small portion of the film was about a girl following Violet's adventure after reading a letter Violet wrote, decades after the main event of the film. These parts do intertwine, however a issue I had was the "episode part" was much like most of the other episodes, even Violet states herself that she has done this sort of work before. It works well however due to it being intertwined with the other sections of the story.
At first I was upset about the film brining back the major, but while watching the way the story brought the major back was done decently. Some plot holes where there, especially when it came to the Major not contacting anyone for years and the finding of the major was kind of weak in terms of creativity.
The parts which was situated decades latter, I found enjoyable as it felt like the story had come to a close. However it was short but its meant to be.
I would definitely recommend watching the film, is it the best anime film, probably not, however its a great ending to a great series.
