Mixed Feelings
Durarara brings into the mix a very diverse and interesting set of lovable characters that is just a joy to see them interact with each other, but the main trio is contrastingly not as interesting. The first half up to the 12th episode is phenomenal, the interconnection between characters with interesting history and storylines was really nice to watch. Celty and Shizuo are easily the absolute highlights, but after the show shifts focus to exploring Anri and Kida for the entirety of second half it becomes sometimes too corny and annoying, really. The final conflict was poorly written and executed, few things made little sense and were logically contradictory to what we've already seen. Not to mention a lot character thoughts/monologues could had been easily cut out or replaced with silent shots and literally nothing would have changed. Which brings me to a another flaw that bothered me in the latter part of the show. It is just shoving information down to your throat about what happened or what certain characters did, instead of actually showing anything. Most importantly it constantly talks about this war between gangs from the very start, but doesn't show anything apart from little minor disputes, to an extent it doesn't feel like something is even happening. I rewatched it after so many years with the intention of watching DurararaX2. I'm quite interested where'd they go with these characters, when the mandatory stuff about their backstories is complete.
