There's basically 3 main characters: the "god", the sidekick-kid, and the waifu.
The god has some dual nature going on, mystery was building up, I could dig it. But, at the end, nothing really happened with it.
The kid was a bit of a douche (but so was the god tbh), though I could see where he was coming from a bit. Although the god's reasoning for letting it happen was rather questionable.. ^^; The high point for me was the exorcism, where we get to see some actual character development.
I was most hopeful about the waifu, who was being built up as someone reliable, important, and who can fend for herself. But, in the end, all she did was being a damsel in distress and giving the god an inexplicable power boost.
There's also a few other characters introduced, but they don't really go many places. I also found the villain at the end to be a bit random and meaningless, and I didn't feel any excitement during the final battle.
I felt like.. Nothing really happened, somehow, other than a little bit of character development with little to no consequences..
I believe this anime explores a lot of interesting concepts, but it ended up being rather mediocre.. :/
Hopefully season 2 is better?
