Shiki (Anime) add (All reviews)

Preliminary (15/22 eps)
Shiki series happened to be a huge suprise for me since before watching it I was in some kind of depression because all the shows I checked lately simply didn't interest me. They all seemed stereotypical, predictable and boring... they simply lacked something.

Also in the past almost all high praised shows that I have watched happened to be a dissapointment so I didn't expect much from this, especially since vampires are not really the theme that interests me that much.

However, I was proven wrong. For the first time I found the whole vampire concept really interesting. I actually learned some new facts about vampires which I didn't know before like for example "They can't enter the house unless invited". The backstory on their life actually made me feel sorry for them instead of being amazed or bored like before.

The whole story starts in small village where sudenlly people start to die and during that crisis a new family arrives into a mansion that everyone found to be out of place. Dr. Ozaki assumes that it is the epidemic but is it so?

We mostly have 3-4 main heroes in the village and everyone has their own part in the story. Everyone thinks differently and takes different actions which have different results. Whose are most effective? That's for you to decide.

Over all series have a lot of characters, to the point that not everyone get enough screen time and development. However, in comparison to other shows it is not a minus. Somehow you still are able to feel for the charactes, to worry for them or hate them.

Despite being quiet predictable you still are on the edge of your sit, wanting to see what will happen next. I myself am re-watching series right now and despite knowing about all the events, there still are momets which I want to see again and again, which make me feel, get worried and sometimes frustrated with some characters actions. Nice animation and music placement get you drown in.

This series deal with morals and ethics, at first you are on the human side but once you get to the core of Shikis' lifes, you start to doubt your original thoughts... you start to think "So who is the real monster? Them or us, humans?"! Some scenes become hard to watch on emotional scale.

Series have some very nice soundtracks, some of them I could actually call my faves and I think that they all suit with the mood of the series.

Colours are quiet dull, not bright, most likely to suit the mood and I think it works. The only complain would be some weird character designs, mostly hairstyles but you do get used to them, and really obviouse black eyes which make you want to scream "Look into their eyes! They are not humans!"

The only reason why I didn't give this series 10 is because quiet a few things are left un-answered by the end of the series and sadly those questions happen to be the ones to which you want to know the answer.

Over all, If you love mysteries and dark series, this is a must.
If you are a fan of vampires, real vampires, it is even bigger must!
If you don't like vampires, I still will say to give this series a try. It might change your looks on vampires.
Series don't have much action like all those other vampire series like Blood+, Rosario+Vampire, Vampire knight... but you won't be bored if you care for the story and good development. However, if mindless action with constant power ups is what you want to see, avoid the series.
