Accept the OP MC for what it is, and just enjoy following him through discovering what happened in the 2000 years since his reincarnation and winning over those around him.
In a time when so many anime shows are mass produced nonsense with cute girls hiding the fact that none of them have any story worth a damn, this sets itself apart. It's not the grandest story, but its a heck of a lot more enjoyable than the usual 'episode 1 sets the scene ---> filler and ecchi ---> episode 13 conclusion'.
