This is an apocalyptic slice of life anime. It's not action-paced like Made in Abyss, nor is it depressing like Texhnolyze, yet it reminds me of both: a slow-paced examination of culture and innocence in the face of oblivion. What it lacks in action and engagement it makes up for with character and story.

There is a juggling between interpretation (from a lack of information) and intrinsic posterity for the protagonistic duo, Chito and Yuuri, when regarding the past. This is an anime that begs the question if society no longer exists, does the prior standard of living still hold: are they living a messed-up childhood; is it as messed-up if it's shared? This and other deep-hitting questions abound in Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou, so let that influence your decision to drink/do drugs while watching it.

Supplication is a non-existent concept in this anime steeped in a lack of outside human presence. I like this, as it allows the naivety of a child's perception organize the experience of life with little influence from an adult presence. All this greatly adds to it being a slow-burn plot.

I rate it 18 ration bars out of 20.
