My skepticism arose when I tried to comprehend how the cityscape of Ikebukuro could house such supernatural and fantasical elements and combine them with modern day themes of gang violence and love to bring together a cohesive storyline. But the creators of DRRRR!! reveals that it's not impossible. The result is a series that is not terrible, but is not worthy of a "masterpiece" title.

The story is very complex to say the least. To top it all off, you have a load of complex (and very odd) characters that often times take turns in narrating the story from their perspectives. This approach really keeps your attention by the variety it brings. However, this can also bring about a lot of confusion. There were many times were I was saying to myself, "How did this person get a hold of this information again?" or "Wait, did this person know that person from before?" With such a large cast of characters it was easy to forget who was connected to whom, and what piece of information was known by what character. The plot was a delicate tapestry of the most bizarre occurances. First, you have an urban legend on a black motorcyle looking for her head, a serial killer known by the media as the "Slasher" that causes nothing but trouble, a mysterious underground gang known as the Dollars, a corrupt pharmaceutical organization with questionable practices, and 3 high school kids that later get in the middle of all the fuss. As much as you try to figure out the connections between all of these occurances, I suggest you give up before your head gives in, because this anime is so unpredictable that you most likely not be able to predict the interrelated relationships and outcomes.

Does it flow? If you are willing to re-watch a couple of episodes to clear the confusion from it's non-linear method of storytelling then yes it does. Once it does flow, and things are making sense for you, then you will be on the edge of your seat with anticipation for the next episode. Once the secrets of the characters slowly unravel, you want nothing more than to know all the interconnectedness between the characters that carries itself til the series end.

The animation was a delight to witness, the action scenes were beautifully executed, overall an enjoyment to watch.
