I throughly enjoyed this anime enough to continue it to the end, only to be disappointed with a less than satisfactory ending. If you have the right type of lead characters for a romance, especially if the leading male is downright a dream too good to be true, of course I'm going to be patient with the stupid, pointless, filler episodes that don't really relate to the overall romance story. However, if the ending episode results in not quite what you desired, and nothing revealing the family background of the hot male lead, then the ratings of the women, namely me, with the crushes on those male leads will go down.

The manga, I've heard, is much more detailed, but is that enough reason to really leave out this important information for the audience who don't normally read manga? Actually, I'm so into Usui, the male lead, that I might actually take a gander at the manga, and I've grown as a stranger to the manga world over the years. The ending credits did give us hints to Usui's mysterious background, but still not very convincing... I needed more to reassure me
that Usui wasn't just an overprotective stalker. (Although we all know a man capable of being that dreamy wasn't that dangerous ;) it's also nice to have some reassurance through storyline.) What exactly was it that attracted him so much to Misaki? Why does he live alone? Why is he so overprotective over those he cares about? After 26 episodes, these questions still remained unanswered, and I wasn't able to get into Usui's head. In other words, I felt no character development for Usui! It seemed to happen for Misaki, and even some minor characters, but why not Usui?

Usui was just too perfect... Good looking, intelligent, rich, monogamous, and a great cook! Maybe I liked this story too much because of him, and my surprising relation to the lead female, Misaki. However, I also don't like stories with a lot of filler episodes, which this series carried. I much rather prefer sides stories that have purpose to the overall series story. Because, what would be the purpose of these side stories to us then? I figured that maybe these episodes were needed for the audience themselves to get attached
to the characters through cute side adventures. Or maybe these extra stories gave Misaki and Usui time to get more acquainted with one another. I might never know the reason, and after watching this series, I might have too high of expectations of the manga to fulfill some of the emptiness I felt with this anime series.
