Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (136/293 eps)
Well now lets get this review started.

Story: Hooks you quite a bit with its first episode and makes you intrigued only to then completely destroy everything it build up because around 70% of the anime is just slice of life mixed with a couple Naruto throwbacks and mediocre padding and even after 130 episodes it still seems like we got absolutely nowhere with the story. Our main villains feel like Akatsuki ripoffs but ofcourse they are much stronger now! Unfortunately for them they barely show up and when they do the fights are not really too special. So often do powerful characters we know just stand near the fight doing absolutely nothing until an ally gets knocked down, then they suddenly remember they're supposed to fight and jump in. Also the characters can always dodge every attack but when the heroes need to seem desperate so that they can up the stakes in that way, they lose their godlike evasion skills and are starting to freeze in place, get hit by everything, dont use any of their skills and generally act like morons, good writing! But back to our Akatsuki ripoffs they want to absorb big boy power to be super strong and for 136 episodes so far, THATS IT in terms of motivation and story we had 3 arcs focusing on the villains one of those basically feels like filler but dont worry according to EXPERTS almost nothing in Boruto is filler, they're adaptions of several side stories, isn't that great?! Did you ever want to have an arc focused on one of the worst and most obnoxious characters in the show?! YOU GOT IT. Are you thrilled to have 40 slice of life episodes in the first 50 episodes of the show that contribute nothing to the overall plot? DAMN BOI nothing pulls me more into a shounen anime than that!. The only arc that stood out focused on one of our main characters Sarada, with no Boruto in sight. Man was it refreshing. You can be lucky to have episodes focused on the main story and even those are pretty meh, the only thing that might keep you hooked are a few mysteries but knowing how the anime went so far, expect to be disappointed.

Art/Animation: Pretty standard for a long running shounen, so dont expect top tier animation in every episode, far from it but still some fights are kinda nice to look at. The character design is pretty nice for the most part, some look a bit too much like their parents but apart from that not bad at all (Himawari is pretty damn cute tho). My only real gripe is with the villains, they frankly suck, they feel like blank sheets of paper with no effort put into them at all, a far cry from past villain groups like the Akatsuki who all looked unique and interesting and most importantly were rememberable.

Sound: Alright but worse than naruto and shippuuden, I can remember one soundtrack that stuck with me so I guess thats something, but compared to its predecessors its nothing.

Character: Story is not the only thing Boruto suffers a lot from, its also the characters that just dont really go anywhere, yeah Boruto develops a bit with the series going on and Mitsuki and Sarada also get an arc each to give them SOME character development but apart from that not really much so far, it's a shame really since Sarada and Mitsuki definitely have potential but since the series feels the need to fixate itself on so much unnecessary stuff, they get kinda left behind. There is also the side cast but they're far too many to build up properly and apart from one or 2 characters also not really important and most of the time completely forgotten and left behind.

Enjoyment: I skipped like half of the series because as soon as I noticed its gonna be just a slice of life episode with no bearing on the plot or development of its main cast I wasn't interested, so honestly thats pretty damn shit and the stuff I watched was not really too great either, the fights were boring and the plot goes nowhere. And even if you like slice of life and happen to come to this anime for it, its pretty damn bad and you're better off watching other anime alltogether.

Overall: Imagine watching Naruto but without the canon episodes and just the filler, thats how it feels to watch this. Why is that? Because they had to push the show out as fast as possible after Shippuuden ended to make big cash. The majority of Boruto is filler and don't tell me that SIDE STORIES ARE CANON UHEHEHEHEE! If they're boring, uninteresting and have no effect on the main plot or to develop characters, they're filler plain and simple. The only reason to keep watching is to possibly see how those J.J. Mystery boxes turn out and I'm not sure if its worth it to suffer through this series just for that.
