This is a show that is all about charm, and it oozes with it. It is essentially a found family show - people, that are lonely or rejected by the world, find each other and learn to get along. This is a formula that relies entirely on its presentation and little details. Fortunately, the characters of this series, despite being a bit larger than life due to the fantasy elements, are incredibly relatable. This show deals with the bizarre difficulty of human interaction well, and is rarely if ever trite or too heavy in the process.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tropes immediately obvious in the title, and the fanservice one probably expects as a result, put a lot of people off. Fortunately, it only has a few moments that lean into that kind of content. Kobayashi's instead presents a heartfelt optimism, and an innocent view of the world that acknowledges its rough edges just enough to not be a mocking fantasy, while yet doing everything in its power to make you smile, from the incredibly catchy and upbeat opening to the constant empathy of even its most dour characters. It is iyashikei in its purest form, and I highly recommend watching this series on days where you feel down. It is sure to pick you up. It may sound generic and it is, but its character writing is astounding, and its optimism is infectious.

Its animation is mainly down to earth and simply charming, but just once in a while, the budget comes out of hiding and we get an action scene that's glorious to behold, but that's mainly a bonus.
