There's something almost fascinating in this anime. Something crude and perceptible. Something that makes this world described tangible and believable. To me, this is one of the greatest force of this show : a fantasy depicted as a harsh and struggling world where mistakes are not going to be forgiven nor forgotten.
In this world, mistakes will kill you with unescapable certainty. If not worse (or both).
I didn't expect this setting, and while for me it's a good surprise, I can still understand why it could come for others as an awkward, gratuitous and violent ride. And I can't say they're exactly wrong either. Take the nudity aspect of the show for example : while some people here defends the idea that it is used to further support the harsh reality of this anime world, it would be very naive to dismiss that this is not also an useless naked breast shot viewers bait.
But honestly, this is not that important either way. Past these few scenes, what remains is a carefully thought anime, with some very good attention to some details (and some carefully overlooked), and overall a very different sense of what this fantasy anime tries to achieve and the story it tries to tell. Don't get me wrong : you won't exactly find a story in Goblin Slayer. The scenario is as bland as it can get, and that's because the "story" in this anime is not exactly the story of the so-called Goblin Slayer. The story to be told, in this anime, is the struggling itself. The harshness to overcome (which could be interpreted as the reason why Goblin Slayer is not "named". Goblin Slayer is only the device to face the struggling).
In the end, I think you could be very wrong to entirely dismiss this anime for a few awkwards scenes, and even considering the good amount of clichés and common flaws to the characters (usually just unconsistent and/or simplistic), I still think Goblin Slayer is a show worth of your time, if you're not jailed in your own principles (or if you don't have something better to watch, that works too).
