Preliminary (7/12 eps)
Alright, this is my first review so please go easy on me. I've seen how bad ecchi animes can get when the only thing the anime is about is seeing up the girl's skirts and this isn't exactly an exception... sort of. But let's start off with the basics.
Story:
The story is a whole lot like many apocalyptic animes and games when there is a band of people trying to survive a massive hoard of zombies while the entire world is going to hell, simple been-there-done-that. The twist is that there's a whole lot of bouncing breasts and nice little shots of their behinds and panties. Nothing much else is very original but the story itself still works. Usually the anime moves between scenes of gore and blood-fest to the fan service which can easily cut off the mood of horror that you're supposed to be feeling. This can either be a saving grace for people who want to take a break from the bloodbath or a real killer for those that want to keep it.
Art:
Art was definitely this series' high points with nicely drawn out characters but you better be very good at taking fan service or the female characters are going to give you headaches with their breasts the size of mountains. Other than that the CG is fine and the background works well.
Sound:
The opening and ending are just general J-Pop songs and most of them aren't really memorable but they aren't really that bad either. Background music I don't really pay attention to very much but the sound effects fit well with the actions. The voice actors are the main reason why this category is above a 5. With voice actors Junichi Sawabe, Marina Inoue, Miyuki Sawashiro, and Nobuyuki Hiyama, the characters become far more enjoyable and believable when expressing their emotions. None of the other characters have bad voices in general.
Character:
Characters are rather generic and as far as I've watched, none have grown in personality or matured in anyway. For the character types, it's a lot like a video game. The hero, the sword user, the ranged man, the spearman, the tactician, and the medic. In terms of personality though, you have a generic main character, the only woman that actually fights well, the love interest of said hero, the otaku, the useless bratty girl, and the useless ditsy woman whose only there to service our needs of huge breasted fan service. There are two saving graces. One is that when you feel pissed off that the character is being too slow or too stupid, you really want to slap them or just leave their whining ass to be eaten by zombies. Luckily, the anime hears your cries and the characters actually slap or leave the annoying one which leaves you in a nice state of satisfaction. The second grace is the otaku which I found to be a rather lovable character and providing most of the comical relief that's actually funny. From the nosebleeds to his sudden mood-swings when seeing guns, he is by far the most fun character in this anime.
Enjoyment:
As I said, I'm used to fan service and after Rosario Vampire, Queen's Blade, and Ikkitousen, all in which I'm not very proud of watching, this fan service which actually succeeds in looking good, comes as a relief. The action scenes with the gore and death was able to raise my pulse a bit and the switches between the ecchi and the action didn't really phase me. The otaku is a nice addition and the art for the girls is very well done.
Overall:
Don't expect any real emotion or something your going to cry to; go for Samurai X Trust and Betrayal. Don't expect something that you feel will change your life; go for Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. This is for some mindless entertainment with zombies, hot chicks, cool fights, and nothing too deep for one to grasp. If that's not your cup of tea, consider the anime that I just listed. But for me, I have finally found an ecchi anime that doesn't suck.
