Seikō no Qwaser contains… Oops, I misspelt the title. Wait, what did I just write? Seikō? Talk about Freud now…

So, first of all Seikon no Qwaser contains a ridiculous amount of fanservice. It has pantsu, breasts (every size you can imagine, from DFC to “Oh god, strong back she has!”), zettai ryōiki, lolicon, BDSM, tentacles, yuri, cross-dressing… every god damn perverted thing I know about. And probably some I don’t even aware of. I think that idea of Qwaser was born something like…

It was a hot summer evening. Yoshino Hiroyuki-shi, manga author, and his acquaintance Kaneko Hiraku-shi, anime director, were sitting in some yomise and killing their time with drinking sake.
“I wonder, where does the border between seijin and normal anime lie?” quietly said Yoshino-shi. “I mean, how much fanservice one can put into the show which is not classified as hentai?”
“That’s easy one, Yoshino,” boastfully answered Kaneko-shi. “Just give rights to your latest manga and I definitely will find the answer!”
And so the great Seikon no Qwaser research project started.

Well, that’s not a true story, of course, but a believable one to my point of view. If you’re not into fanservice, afraid of boobies or something like that, then you’ll find Qwaser disgusting, so I won’t recommend it to you. Seriously, you better stop reading my review and go find something less perverted. Don’t waste your precious time, guys. Otherwise… Let’s take a closer look.

In the first place I’d like to point out the fact that this show has an awesome cast of voice actors. To the pleasure of KyoAni fans there are seiyū of Suzumiya, Nagato, Akiyama and Hirasawa Yui, plus seiyū of Roy Mustang and Saber have secondary roles. That’s quite a team, huh? No wonder, the creators were able to make good opening and ending themes thanks to them.

One more good aspect of Qwaser is fighting scenes. They are truly epic. Once main character went battle frenzy speaking lines on Russian (“Moâ duša — èto stalʹ, moë telo — čërnyj metal” and so on), and that was just as cool and pathos-charged as Unlimited Blade Works from Fate/stay night, if you know what I’m talking about.

When it comes to animation, it’s pretty fair. Of course, web-rips have awful quality and the version shown on TV is censored with the help of mad skills, so they are nearly watchable, but now the blu-rays are coming out and they have nice artwork, thus no major complains here.

I suppose one can’t be serious about a plot in this kind of anime, but that’s a complicated case here. Sometimes plot’s really good, no kidding, but sometimes it degrades into “Huh, plot? Screw that, roll the breast-feeding scene!” Sucking boobies in the middle of the battle to get power-up is a bit… disturbing concept, thus it’s really easy to slide down to the abyss of story stupidity. It happened especially hard in the middle (episodes 13 & 14) and towards the end (roughly all episodes after 19th). Oh yeah, by the way, the creators changed stereotypical catholic holy warriors from Vatican into orthodox holy warriors from Russia. Not a big deal, actually, but that’s somewhat refreshing, plus the Russians can find it hilarious. Or they’ll just get angry and beat the crap out of Japan with their rockets and bear cavalry, I don’t know much about politics.

Summing this review up, I’ll tell you what: if you want to watch some anime, which is not bending your mind, full of action and has fanservice, than you definitely should check this thing out. It’ll be worth watching. (There is scene where one girl stops a blade between her breasts. Sigh. The most retardedly hilarious idea ever.) Otherwise, if you’re a Puritan or just want to see something intellectual and developing, than you’ll gonna hate Qwaser and wanna destroy it with fire, so it’s a bad idea for you to pick this up. Don’t even come close to this show.

As for me, this is just another run-of-the-mill anime to kill free time with if you’re bored and have no better alternatives. Just nothing too bad, nothing too good, thus 7 out of 10.
