Darling in the FranXX was my gateway back into anime after taking a bit too long of a break away from it and honestly, I wasn't disappointed overall. That being said, I can't overlook one thing. At first, the world building in the show is great, you're told just enough to get you intrigued and there's the air of mystery around the horned girl. As time goes on, we get to know more about the world, there's less mystery, you get the idea of the situation and know as much as our main characters. Though they are mostly two dimensional and any arc they have tends to get thrown to the side later. But protagonists are more fleshed out. Though you do need to be okay with love triangles because they exist here and some find it annoying. And it touches on one of my pet peeves of we need to get through this conflict, so let's just brute force our way through it or have some new tool and or capability to do it. But that's a me thing. If there is one thing that they did wrong, it's this one part in the story where it just falls to pieces, and I'll keep it spoiler free but they end up trying to rush through something and the pacing is just so hectic. Though it does it's best to fix it. It still has that really bad moment in it. to give an analogy, you're playing football and you have the ball, running to the touchdown when someone from behind pants you. You still made the touchdown, but there's a good chance you'll be remembered for getting pants on live T.V. Almost like Death Note but more apparent. On a side note, one great soundtrack.
