I'm both a manga reader and anime watcher of the Tokyo Ghoul series. The adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul Re isn't even all that bad.

It was easy for me to understand the story because I've been reading the manga. As for anime only watchers, I guess it could get somewhat confusing. Haise Sasaki is introduced as the main character and I'm sure at least some people thought "Where's Kaneki?" or "Who's this guy?" This isn't a very big problem though since the answer to these questions are given pretty early in the anime. Another source of confusion is Tokyo Ghoul Root A. Some may have been confused as to whether or not this season was including the events of season 2. But, technically, Tokyo Ghoul Root A just took an alternative route to pretty much the same outcome. Some things were left out but the most important part was included at the very end of Root A. Anyway, people who only watched the anime should be able to put together at least a basic idea of what's going on. And the plot itself is good. I mean, what do you expect from an anime about ghouls and ghoul investigators? The answer would be ghoul investigators fighting and, well, investigating ghouls. That's exactly what we got plus some extra stuff. I will admit that I wish they included Kaneki's chin rubbing habit. It would've made that one scene earlier on much better.

The art itself is good. I actually like it, especially when it comes to Tsukiyama. He looks so much better now than he did in seasons 1 and 2. The animation wasn't intolerable but it could've been better. During certain scenes, faces and movements look weird and it just sucks to have good moments interrupted like that.

But I am a bit disappointed with the soundtrack... Season 1 and 2 had amazing soundtracks and I really hoped that this season would include beautiful music as well. While I did like the music that they included, I expected more. I do really like the opening song though. The many different sounds form something beautiful and I love that. The ending song is pretty good too. And I really like how they brought back Unravel for that one episode. It tugged at my heartstrings until they broke and it left me sadder than I ever thought I'd be... As for the voice actors, they were good. I watched the dub version and I just absolutely love Austin Tindle. Everyone else sounded great but Kanae was a bit iffy. The voice actor had the French accent going on but I couldn't understand what they were saying at times.

I like all the main characters but Saiko is the only one in Haise's squad who lacks something. She has a personality of some sort and has a motivation but there's no development or change. If you compare how Urie, Shirazu, and Haise were at the beginning to how they were at the end, you can notice some change. Saiko's a different story though. Oh, and Suzuya's different compared to how he was in the previous seasons so that's good. That certain incident has affected him and made him look at things differently.

Story: 9
Art: 9
Sound: 9 (Even though I was disappointed, there wasn't anything I didn't like.)
Character: 8
Enjoyment: 10 (Despite everything, I didn't regret watching this one bit.)

So yeah, this season could've been much better. Even though it may have been confusing for some people and some things weren't as good as they should've been, Tokyo Ghoul Re isn't bad in the slightest. I give it a 9.
