The whole glory comes from the characters, especially Onizuka, bleached hair heavy smoker prank mastermind ex yakuza headteacher. What else could you ask for. He is the apotheosis of comedy characters. Of course the students play an important part in the story as well as the faculty but he might all alone be enough.
He might be what I aspire to be, I've told myself that if I ever become a teacher, I want to be just like him (without dating underaged chicks) but that will definitely get me in trouble but wha really touches me is his positivity and honesty sometimes and overall great at being a human being.
My enjoyment rate boosted over the roof where every episode always brings another piece of the puzzle of the story whereas the plot isn't that deep, he always overcomes challenges.
