The story is a slow burn; I've remarked myself that the pilot episode itself was only average. But as you make your way through the series, everything starts to just make sense why this story is being told, and you come to truly care about these characters which are so phenomenally written.
It's easy to mess up character development but difficult to master getting it just right, and ReLIFE is a prime example of the latter. It's filled with a memorable cast with each character standing out with their own consistently-crafted personalities, fully including their strengths and weaknesses.
Few anime get the endings they deserve but fortunately for us, ReLIFE is one of those.
ReLIFE has made me feel ways I have not felt from consuming any other type of media. It's genre-defining storytelling at its finest and is easily one of the reasons why I have come to love anime. At the very minimum you will feel a shred of care towards these 2-dimensional characters, so what are you waiting for? Give it a shot and you won't regret it, as cliche as that sounds.
