Before getting into the core of this review and the reason why this show is so overrated, ill go over the story, concept etc. and if you should watch it. Also this review is just my opinion and will hopefully give you a different perspective on this overrated piece of .. Ill get to that later.
If youre just here for the question "Should I watch it?" Heres your answer : Yeah I guess, even though I talk alot of shit it does have its strong points but be prepared to see 5yr old fanservice... and retarded story, dw tho you wont notice it because of the brainwashing this show does. Okay ill cover some of its strong points first then.
1. Art - The show does have some beautiful shots here and there and paired with a good soundtrack and concept alot of people are blinded by these things and will overlook any flaw this series has which brings me to my next 2 points
2. Sound - As I said, its good and fits with the art and concept.
3. Concept - The concept is damn good .. at manipulating the viewer (more about it later)
4. Story - Its boring and does not make any sense (again more about the negative things later, this is just to give a quick review.)
5. Characters - They are really young which is fine, but in this case this is just used to manipulate the viewer even more and its just pedo heaven really, like who asked for naked scenes, even ecchi shows dont do that.
Well you might have wondered why I started this review with "I dont understand why its praised" and then bring out several points as to why i think its shit, but well actually I do, its what this review mostly covers, that sentence served as more of a point that it isnt good. So lets start with really the heart of this review.
Firstly this anime uses the failure of harem fantasy shows like the smartphone one from not too long ago to manipulate you. Let me explain - people are so tired of shitty harems in a fantasy setting that theyll praise anything that ISNT a harem in a fucking fantasy setting, people will also watch anything that doesnt have some plain looking dude with a bunch of girls in the thumbnail and the because of this its massively overrated. It doesnt actually have to be good, it just needs to not be a harem in a fantasy world. Now you could argue that this is just basics of a really good anime and it isnt using the fantasy shows to boost its ratings, it just does things right. It doesnt work like that, there is no "fantasy with no harem > fantasy with harem" rule and while there are certain guidelines to making a good anime, its not uncommon to see a good show that doesnt follow those guidelines at all, but I havent actually talked about what makes this show actually shit, I mean overrated-ness doesnt make it bad so heres what does, the story.
Now firstly I know that every question can be answered with "kids" Why send toddlers to the abyss where its filled with monsters? Kids, kids like that and I understand that im not here to critizise the kids for watching this anime as its meant for them with the whole exploration element and whatnot, but the insanely high rating doesnt come from kids who dont really care if the story is flawed, so why do people like Gigguk praise it like its the second coming of christ and make these cringy clips trying to get you to watch it? Well our standards for a good fantasy show have fallen so low that even this shit is now "one of the best picks of the year." Its like a good story isnt needed for a non-harem fantasy and it gets a pass in everything as long as children are involved, but actually its alot worse than even those harems ive been talking about, because not only is there nudity in this anime, it is also of a 5yr old girl GREAT VALUE FANSERVICE RIGHT THERE BTW which shatteres the whole image of it being "not like a fantasy harem show." I can make an anime about anything really and itll be praised to shit as long as it has good art, music, a good concept, young extremely young characters to get the pedos and a fantasy concept with no harem. Oh and the exploration element and cant forget the great absolute fantastic value fanservice which definetly sets it apart from any ecchi shows since none of those are of realky really young girls. I mean thats what this anime basically is.
Overall our standards for good fantasy anime are rock bottom caused by the waves and waves of light novel adaptasions and you dont need a good story or anything really as long as you got good art, concept, music and the benefit of not being a fantasy harem.
