I'll admit, I waited a long time to watch this anime and going in I was very skeptical that it was going to be good, but HOLY CRAP WAS I EVER WRONG!!!!!! I can't believe how much I enjoyed this anime and I feel so stupid for not having watched it sooner, I could have joined in on all the fun back when everyone else was watching it!!!! Seriously, this was awesome and I loved pretty much every minute of it!

There were several things which I found immensely refreshing in this anime:

1) the fanservice is at least partially equal-opportunity - I mean, in a show which is about clothing which gives you power and having the clothes shred when someone is defeated, obviously people were going to be naked, but I just can't stop being so thrilled with the fact that the men in this anime are sometimes just as naked as the women. Mmmmmmmmmm, Gamagoori, you giant, sexy.... Oh, sorry, lost my train of thought there for a second. But, seriously, I just love how the anime didn't shy away from male nudity, it not only stops the nudity from becoming purely fanservice, but it also makes the world the anime paints so much more real. Sure, a lot of the male nudity is played for laughs, but I'll still take it.

2) Matoi is treated almost exactly like a male protagonist - This was the thing the most surprised me about Kill la Kill. You would think, that in an anime where the two main female characters fight in skimpy clothing, everyone in the anime would treat her in the sexist way you would expect and the anime would go out of its way to put her into humiliating, fanservicy moments, but no, this anime is just too good for that. Matoi is treated as a person first and, even though the show acknowledges her outfit in the first few episodes, I maintain that you could easily replace Matoi with a male protagonist and the anime would be almost completely unchanged, though, as much as I long for an anime full of scantily-clad men, I won't change anything about this anime.

Yes, there is something of a sexual assault scene, but, beyond that, I adore this anime. A great plot, addictive music, lots of fanservice for whatever you're looking for, and, more than anything, great characters, I loved it. The only knock I give it is that some side characters are pretty annoying and grating, but I think I eventually came to see them as endearing, too. I loved Kill la Kill and I never should have doubted it for a moment. Go watch it already! :D
