Should you watch Koe no Katachi? If that is your question then I suggest you stop reading my review and just go straight ahead and watch the movie right now, that is if you have not read the manga and or have only heard good things about it. But in all seriousness, it is a good movie and you should watch it.

So now for the actual part of the review:

Story: 10/10
Art: 9/10
Sound: 7/10
Characters: 6/10

The story is great, simply well-done, there really isn't much I can say about it, the movie from the perspective of those who read the manga may felt it be somewhat rushed and or incomplete, however, I think if people watched the movie without prior knowledge of the manga can actually appreciate how well-done and amazing the story is, although many people wanted to see more from it such as more parts of the manga being adapted, or the movie has an original ending that covers up what the manga didn't, I personally think it ends on a really good note, and though I want more of it, I can't deny that the ending did bring me some closure for the series.

There also isn't that much that can be said about the art of the movie, it's just what you will expect from a modern animated movie adaptation from the manga.

Sound to me was lacking, there really wasn't that many sound cues from the background that brought any emotions out of me, it felt really blend. It could be that the producer made it this way to compliment the name of the movie, but to me, it does the movie more harm than good, I remember watching the trailer with the movie theme playing in the background, and that is all it takes for me to decide to read the manga and watch the movie, which the movie did not do half as well as the trailer.

Lastly, the characters, in my opinion, did not get enough time to develop. The main characters Ishida and Nishimiya both got plenty of screen time and had their fair chance of becoming what they ended up being in the manga, but the other side characters I feel like aren't nearly as lucky, and if anything cause a bit of the hindrance to the movie. The question I often ask about characters are whether or not their existence have a meaning, just like those background people, no one cares about them, no one needs to know who they are because they have nothing to do with the story. The same idea can be applied here, it almost feels like they are just there to push the story forward and not really there for any particular reason. But I guess their one saving grace is the fact that they are all so realistic that they are in fact, interesting.

Overall, I think this movie is great, I feel like the movie is aiming at a different idea of the story than the manga was, which is probably why a lot of people did not feel satisfied with the movie and maybe gave it a bad review. But I do have to say, this movie is done really well, and if it's possible you should watch the movie before you read the manga. Also, I think it's important to watch this movie and reflects on your own experience with it, as I feel it is so life-like, that it could be someone's childhood and school life right there.

And if you are still reading....

GO WATCH THE MOVIE GOD DAMN IT!!!!!!!
