black butler is BY FAR one of my favorite anime of all time. i absolutely love the concept of demons/grim reapers and a child taking over as the earl of his family's estate. i love the time setting of victorian era england where earls and nobles make up the majority of the monarchy. but trust me- that's not the only thing that has brought be back to this series so many times.

black butler may just be the most well-written anime series i've seen. it doesn't have the lazy, shortcut type of writing that's just there to fill in the gaps, rather, it builds different stories that supports different themes but ultimately leads up to the same goal: to find the people who killed ciel's parents.

the themes of revenge and redemption are knitted together so perfectly with yana toboso's well-crafted storylines. though this isn't an anime with nonstop action, it has its share of dark battle scenes but also with dark, witty, humorous battle scenes. it has quite a bit of dark humor, but also a unique sense of humor throughout the series that never fails to make me laugh.

overall, this anime never fails to bring a smile to my face or tears to my eyes with its shocking scenes and backstory, or its dark humor. if you don't think you'll like it after watching the first episode, KEEP WATCHING! it breaks off from the manga around episode 15 or so, but it's still good after that.
