91 Days (Anime) add (All reviews)
Mar 22, 2017
Preliminary (11/12 eps)
Ok, this is my first review I've ever made and never thought it would be for this genre, but I needed to. (Also forgive any mistakes since I'm not a native english speaker. Thanks~)

Story ~ 9

Mafia themed anime is not rare to find, but still 91 Days outstands. Seems a bit cliché the story of a person who search revenge for someone he loved and that's what 91 Days revolves around but, be patient and watch it to the end. It. Worths. It.
The plot got darker (althought, it's refreshing to see a little humor time to time between dense parts) and it's a lot more exciting while you reach the last episodes. Is a war between families to gain power through whiskey in the middle of the Prohibition. Everyone is betrayed by everyone, and betraying means death.

Art ~ 6

I feel sorry the studio didn't put more effort on it. In some scenes is notably the lack of detail and fluidity (if you know what I mean). Although I like the character's designs and sceneries and hopefully the action scenes, I believe, were well made at least. Also the colors gave the appropiate mood to the story.

Sound ~ 8

As I mentioned with the colors, the BGM fitted good. I loved the OP made by TK from Ling Tosite Sigure, idk, it felt like it was Angelo itself who was singing. The ED also bring a nostalgic mood and space to somehow digest what just happened in the episode.

Character ~ 6

Although nearly every character had his own, very defined personality, there were little to nothing character development. Their personalities were mainly static in the whole story, however this wasn't a big problem regarding the situations exposed.
I must highlight some extreme behavior changes like for example with Corteo, but still think this is more like a plotwist than a character development.

Enjoyment ~ 9

91 Days is really really enjoyable! The main purpose of an animation production (and others) is to: entertain. Entertainment doesn't mean to be funny at all. It's meant to produce experiences to the viewer, and 91 Days sure it does. The story is really exciting, thrilling and heartbreaking. Yup, the last episodes made me meditate of how these characters felt, how will you do if you were in a situation like this? The loss of a friend, of a member of your family, the fear of losing your own life... and the pain behind this. You really feel an empathy with the characters no matter who's side you are.

Greed, betrayal, forgiveness.... redemption? Was it all in vain?
