Mixed Feelings
This season of the show can be easily disjoined into 3 distinct constituents. Those being: the first episode, the first arc, and the second arc. The first episode would score a 7 by itself, the first arc 2, and the second arc a 5. Needless to say, the first episode carries the season, though there is nothing I can say about it that could be spoiler-free (?). Having said that, we can discuss the arcs with more ease. The first arc is the same episode for 8 episodes and then a conclusion. I hope that's not much of a spoiler. The name of every episode is "Endless Eight," so it shouldn't be much of a shocker. This arc serves one purpose and one purpose only: to develop a character and imbed an idea that would later become relevant and foster in the movie. There's not much to say other than I didn't quite appreciate it. Watch it once to get an idea of the suffering one character had to endure. On rewatches, simply watch the first and last episode, some people might recommend more, but I wouldn't. The second arc serves as a set up for the first season. It plays off of the strengths of the first season without actually having any of those said strengths (refer to my review of that season for further clarification). This arc does what it's supposed to and nothing else. It serves to develop the characters and fully flesh out the story while providing enough exposition for the movie. It's solid, and a must-watch for this series.
