Preliminary (4/12 eps)
(4.0/10)

Disclaimer: Not huge on anime as a whole + stopped at 4th episode (although that's a solid 2 hours watched).

I'm not sure what to say. When i first saw that the show had 50 minutes long i was hoping that that means it won't be as rushed as a lot of the anime that i've seen. A constant issue plaguing anime is that episodes often feel rushed due to their run time, ESPECIALLY introduction episodes which try to cram every single plot device and character introduction into one short edible twenty minute bite.

So this was 50 minutes, and i'm like, "fuck, ok, lets see where it goes." And i did. What i got instead of quite literally forty of those fifty minutes being infected with another annoying anime trope. Over-explaining shit that doesn't need to be explained in really really REALLY obvious and clunky exposition scenes, relying on scrolling still-images to save budget.

So we have a pretty environment with OK character designs sitting around a table talking about something that i'll forget about in a few episodes only for it to flash back to that one scene of them talking to remind me about it (why even include it in the first place?!).

This sitting and talking about backstory rather than developing anything in a natural and interesting way lasts forever. So much so that the person i was watching the show with were just zoned out completely.

So finally when the action began and the generic anime concept of "the introduction episode MUST have an action scene to establish the characters" was in full bloom. But i thought, "well, they just talked for thirty minutes so MAYBE this action sequence is where the first episode budget went."

Nope. Nope nope nope nope NOPE.

Instead its fifteen minutes of this villain character doing more clunky exposition and backstory for the shows backstory (MORE BACKSTORY PLEASE FOR FUCKS SAKE SHOOT ME IN THE BALLS NOW), and when it finally ends the actual fight lasts for around ten seconds and he gets dealt with immediately. Fuck. Me.

Maybe next episode will be better?

It wasn't, not really anyway. Once again we have a litany of backstory we couldn't give less of a shit about. I won't harp on this, but this is something that occurs throughout every episode i've seen. Just constant backstory. CONSTANT. About character we meet and they leave within the episode! This isn't good interesting character development that gets you attached to someone who might die! Nope, its literally just procedural paragraphs upon paragraphs of one character explaining to another character "things" about "stuff".

So lets talk about these characters. We have the character trope that anime just loves to kick in our faces, the "New to the whole 'living in society' thing". That's because they have to deliver backstory somehow! And when the character asks "What's 'this thing'" The other character can reply in some long drawnout... thing... about what it is.

Then we have generic tsundere. A white haired "cute" character, by "Cute" i mean "Cute" in the way anime thinks something is cute. So... horribly incompetent in everything and slightly competent in something else. And because she's tsundere she's unbelievably selfish and unlikable and i wanted genghis khan to be a character in this show cause then we'd have a chance to see her get impaled on a fucking spike.

Every other character is someone introduced into the show to leave (so far) by the end of the episode. They either die or survive. All i know is that they they are there to deliver more backstory about swords and whatnot. There's no emotion behind it because "character developement" in this show is just "hey, here's some backstory about the character... PLEASE LIKE THEM PLEASEPPLEASEPLEAKJLDFJ;AD;KLJFAJKFAJADJLKFA".

Overall. Its bad. Not VERY bad. But bad. Its a bad show so far. I don't really want to watch any more of it but i might because perhaps it actually gets good!

More offensively its not bad like a generic harem is bad, where you sit there and laugh at how fucking retarded and pandering whoever wrote this is. Its bad in the sense that its fucking boring. There was effort in the creation of the story, but no effort in delivering this creation in a compelling way.

Fuck.
