I thought the humor was spot on in this show. As it is a romantic comedy that's a good thing.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! follows the young 16-year-old Misaki Ayuzawa who goes to what formerly was an all-boys school. She's the president of the student council, though I have to wonder how she got the position as those are popularity contests, and Misa is not the most popular girl at her school due to the fact that she's a misandrist. The reasons for that are slightly touched on, but if you're expecting a flashback scene in this show detailing all of that then you'll be sorely disappointed.

As the title suggests, Misa works part-time at a maid shop to help pay for the bills for her family because her family is poor. I don't know if this is a social faux pas in Japan, but Misa really doesn't want anyone to know it. Of course that's thrown out the window in the first episode as the aloof Usui Takumi, the heartthrob that breaks all the girl's hearts stumbles upon her.

Usui finds Misa to be incredibly attractive, and I have to admit I'd be taken with the girl too, even though she's really tomboyish and hates men. The story follows Usui's attempts to excessively troll Misa. I really related to that because that's basically my personality.

Long story short, Misa doesn't need a man in her head. She's incredibly strong, and prefers to do things her own way, so continually rejects his advances. But she does fall into that tsundere category as she is incredibly ambivalent towards Usui. Of course it probably doesn't help that a lot of the time Usui is antagonistic towards her just to get her reaction.

It does end on one of those "go read the manga" endings, but unlike something else like Berserk, it's still able to stand on its own.

One thing I did find annoying about the show is that near the end of the run a third character is brought in to form a love triangle. It doesn't even work. The other boy is annoying, and through the narrative we're shown that it takes an incredibly long time for Misaki to warm up to someone as the romance between Usui and her moves at a glacial pace. The show really didn't sell me on the love triangle, and given that it came so late in the game I really question why the author even decided to do that.
