I'll be honest: when the season started, I wanted absolutely nothing to do with KonoSuba based off of its early synopsis. To me, it made it sound like it was going to be some poorly written romance drama (Kind of like Ao No Kanata became, which I was actually fairly excited to see). I think I watched the first episode just for the hell of it, and I was extremely pleased to find that KonoSuba was NOT at all what I was expecting it to be.

Story - 7/10
I don't need to say how overplayed the "Transported to a game world" plot device is, because everyone knows it by now. If it weren't for KonoSuba's excellently executed comedy, I likely would not have enjoyed it nearly as much as I did. The story doesn't get more than a 7 from me because what little story there is is very disjointed and pushed to the background to make room for the comedy (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). What saves it is how it's incorporated into the hilarity of the series. There are a couple episodes dealing with one of the Demon King's henchmen, Dullahan, where Megumin is daily practicing her Explosion magic on his castle, and he arrives at the city to get his revenge. Hilarity ensues, but that's about all we get of the Demon King story, which is apparently the whole reason Kazuma was reborn in this world in the first place. However, that doesn't stop the fact that KonoSuba had some fairly impressive world building for a ten episode first season, and what made it impressive to me was how the world building was used to create some incredibly hilarious situations. The Giant Frogs that nearly wiped out the entire party and the humor that came with it, the freakin' FLYING CABBAGES, the encounter with Dullahan, the whole Destroyer nonsense, and so on and so forth. KonoSuba's generic premise is saved by its parody aspects and its absurd nonsense.

Art - 7/10
From what I've heard, Studio Deen isn't exactly a top tier studio, especially in the visual department, and it shows in KonoSiba. But I think the hilariously derpy to average-at-best artstyle here contributes a lot to the character of the show, which is why I'm not giving it a 5 or 6. It's a bit difficult to explain why this is, so don't ask me for an in-depth explanation. Other than that, the character designs are nice. The female characters all look cute (which is always a win), and the rest of the characters all look decent. The monsters and backgrounds look cool sometimes. That's about it.

Sound - 8/10
The opening theme is quite good, the voice acting sounded great, and I absolutely LOVED the ending theme. The background music was decent, but there really isn't too much more to say about it.

Characters - 9/10
These characters are an absolute riot! You have the hilariously cynical and real Kazuma, the narcissistic goddess Aqua-sama, the loli-mage-who's-sexually-attracted-to-explosions Megumin (best girl of the season, by the way), and the masochistic knight Darkness. Together, this band of useless misfits attempts to succeed in this fantasy world, and it is a "blast". Their interactions with each other and the other side characters are just so hilarious and fun. Sure, they can be a little perverted at times, but if you're like me, you'll appreciate it. It's not overdone to the point where it overshadows the actual "plot" (I'm using the term loosely), and it's not underdone to where you'd be thinking to yourself "what was the point?". Instead, it's just enough to add to the flavor of the anime. But I digress. Like I said, these characters are simply a joy to watch.

Enjoyment - 9/10
I think it's evident in my above statements that I vastly enjoyed watching Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!, so I won't go into too much more detail here. I'm glad I gave it a chance even when I thought it was going to be garbage.

Overall - 8/10
If you're getting tired of the "Game World" trope, I'd definitely recommend KonoSuba for a fresh, enjoyable, and hilarious take on it. If you never enjoyed that style in the first place, you may not like it that much, but since it's more similar to a parody, I'd at least give it a shot.
