Mixed Feelings
Preliminary (34/131 eps)
Whereas Dragonball was an adventurous childhood, Dragonball Z was a dramatic adolescence, and GT was the mildlife crisis, Dragonball Super is the senile dotage struggling to recall its glory days. The plot takes fans on a roller coaster ride through peaks of super-powered fights and deep valleys of annoying comedic filler.

The "Battle of The Gods" saga is a frustrating comedic circus of characters that in which family values and food porn replace martial arts training and quests for dragonballs. The "God of Destruction" instills no fear and inspires no hatred for the audience.

After an anti-climatic ending, the next saga jumps immediately into the action, introducing new villains that quickly act out their evil deeds. Though more action-packed, the "Resurrection of F" story arc relies heavily on nostalgia to make up for the faults of the previous saga. The positive qualities of this saga can be found in flashbacks, returning villains, and fight sequences, though they’re still plagued by comedic distractions like Jaco the space patrolman and strawberry sundaes.

Unlike these first two sagas, there is no cinematic version for Dragonball Super’s latest saga. This inter-dimensional tournament introduces new characters to provide more combat, however the new characters appear goofy and unappealing, with spaghetti arms and potbellies, while the tougher-looking opponents are simply recycled character designs. Unfortunately, there's more cheating and refereeing than fighting, and there's a complete lack of any side plots or urgency.
