Story - 2
The story gets 2 marks, 1 for actually trying to pretend it have one and 1 for all trying to explain things in techno bullshit. The thing is the entire story can be summed up in one phrase "Tatsuya (self-insert name) is awesome!" Yes that's it, Tatsuya is Jesus, and anything in his way shrivel pathetically in front of his almighty finger poke of doom. Politics? Setting? How do they matter at all when your MC is so OP, that nothing matters at all. There is no real stakes, no real conflict, all the politics, all the fancy explaining, they are all deception creating an illusion of depth.
The story like almost all these terrible WN adaptation is simply a masturbation power fantasy.
Character - 1
Miyuki is an annoying mary-sue, created by the author to be the perfect waifu for him (You should read the part in the novel describing her, the author fanboying is very creepy). Beyond that she is nothing more than an extension of Tatsuya.
Which bring us to the halbringer of WN OP protagonist, Tatsuya. He is emotionless except he does have emotion, he is OP, a genius, and basically good at everything, and as for the "feel other people pain" part, that is totally bullshit, he have no reaction at all. Pain is shown, pain is when the MC fall to the ground screaming, looking pathetic, and showing your weakness, trembling unable to get up. Tatsuya have none of this, so "Pain" my ass.
As for other characters, when a black-hole-sue exist, all other character cease to have any purpose other than be insects for tatsuya to step on, or worshippers who kiss the very ground tatsuya walks on.
--------Effect on the LN industry-------
See the word "weakest" in bahamut's title? The trend of "MC-kun have is actually super-duper awesome and the school is flawed" is popularized by Mahouka's success. But there is an even more terrifying result.
Mahouka's success had opened the flood gate that used to hold back the abominations of WN, but now the seal is cast off, and the WN tide now sweeps towards us. Things like GATE (Xenophobic propaganda power fantasy/Spunkgargleweewee), Overlord (standard Qidian power fantasy), and many not yet animated WN turned LN are flooding forward. It would be like the dark age of Qidian all over again, power fantasy running rampant, all challenge is lost until the medium is known as nothing but a putrid pond of masturbation. Now the LN industry is pretty much dead with half of what it output being "pretty pictures and toilet paper" with the other half being "Power Fantasy Masturbation"
Do you see the problem of this kind of shows now?

Like I said, Mahouka by itself is not too much of an abomination (it still is), by it self it probably deserves a 3 or 3.5, but the result it caused is catastrophic, and due to the horrible personality of its author, the entire thing deserves a 1.5 out of 10.
