If there's a film that perfectly captures that old Disney charm Modern Disney fails to capture, it's this film. In a good way, it's more Disney than Disney's recent output, and it's very surprising considering it's by the same studio (and worked on by the same people) who made Kill la Kill and Panty and Stocking.

Instead of being an action-heavy series spewing comedic scenes at a high frequency, LWA is much slower and simpler in terms of plot and pacing. And I love it dearly because of it. The plot is very simple, essentially it's a wonderful introduction to the world of LWA with it mainly being a day in Akko's school life.

Characters are portrayed rather well if a bit cliched, you get your typical roles and stereotypes, you have the main girl being Genki and all, a bitchy and haughty rival who cools down, an older character hiding a secret... The point is, if you've watched any Western Animation involving school life, you know what characters to expect. But the characters themselves are so likable you won't be minding it one bit.

Adding to that, they are splendidly brought to life by the amazing animation quality. It's very energetic and adorable, bearing more resemblance to older Western Animation than anime, yet having it's own unique feel. It's very different from standard Trigger fare and it is very visually appealing. Background art is similarly excellent, at times even evoking similar vibes to Dark Souls or the like.

While the plot is nothing to write home about, I really do want to see LWA being properly serialized. There's some great potential in the world of LWA and it being restricted to 2 episodes is a real shame.

Personally I preferred episode 1 to episode 2, it was paced much more smoothly and characters have enough time to shine in the spotlight. However, both episodes are excellent in their own right and they really deserve a view if you haven't seen either of them

7/10. Excellent series. Trigger's finest.
