The girl, studying magic and a bit of a klutz, is to summon for the first time, their familiar, their partner for life. The summoning ended up with a bang, smokes everywhere and here enters the boy. Now the pair is completed, adventures commence, and some love triangles, heartbreaking scenes, and childish misunderstandings where the boy ends up toasted. I should inform, the girl is kind of a tsundere, I believe that's what they call it, a strong spirited female character. So no wonder for a toasted boy.
Girl meets boy. boy meets girl_1, girl meets girl_1, boy meets boy_1?
Since the dominating genre here is romance and a bit for younger viewers, kids, I can forgive boats floating, missing adults where kingdoms go to war and etcetera as long as they be consistent.
I always believed that no matter how overrated the story, good writers finds a way and this anime, if asked to describe, after the telling, the response would be an expectant cliche impression. The only way to catch the magic is to watch.
ps. the anime, i think, composes 1 part romance, 1 part humor, which is funny (pft), .8 adventure, .2 war, .05 historical. All in all, we come up with a fruit salad, sweet and delightful.
