Paranoia agent is not psychological anime, IT'S the psychological anime. Made by the creator of Perfect blue and Paprika with stories and ideas he never developed well to create a full leght movie, he made an anime of thirteen episodes. Because of this, you'll find a lot of characters and subplots in each episode, with a common element: a figure known as the Shounen Bat, a boy with roller skaters who attacks people with his bat. It started as a policial and slice of life series, ending up with a final epic end in the last two episodes, without losing the message and intentions of the author: criticize the japanese society and the bad habit of people of run from reality insead of face it. I should warn that it's a really realistic show, something you'll realize with the characters and the designs, very far away from the average clichés. Some episodes are more connected with the main plot than others, like the episode of the three suicidals, one of my favourites, but are still enjoyable, and doesn't feel out-of-place in any moment. The soundtrack is other of the stong points of this shows. The ending and the opening are both memorable.
So, if you always complain that anime is all the same, see this show, cause you'll gonna eat your own words.
