I have finally made the right choice to send off summer 2014. If you are wondering why I didn't review the remaining anime that I have watched is because I have nothing interesting to say and I always repeat myself every time I do that, which is frustrating. So to end summer 2014 on a good note, I decided to review Barakamon, the #1 anime of summer 2014, in my opinion.

STORY (10):

The story follows Seishu Handa, a calligrapher expert, who was sent to Goto Island, near Kyushu, after having a feud with an elderly curator due to the fact that Seishu Handa couldn't take criticism from him. From there, Seishu Handa, develops a relationship with the group from Goto Island.

The story has its funny and sad moments bundled together. Just like the korean movie that I had watched which was "My Teacher, Mr. Kim".

ART (9):

The animation is excellent.

SOUND (10):

The melody of the song fits in well. Like when there is sad moments, the tune is sad. Likewise if there are funny moments, the tune is exciting. It sets the mood perfectly. The opening and ending are addictive.

CHARACTER (10):

The characters are well-fleshed out and have ample time of development.

Seishu Handa was my favorite character. He reminded me so much of Hachiman Hikigaya from Oregairu, in a better way. Seishu Handa was the type of character who is determined, optimistic, wise, everything that I wanted from him. Daisuke Ono did a good job in portraying the voice of Seishu Handa. I did like his character development the best, it shows that he learns his mistake by improving as a character from there on.

Naru Kotoshi was the best comic relief character. She brings joy to the cast especially form a strong bond with Seishu Handa. She is also funny when she does all those funny faces.

Hiroshi Kido was also an interesting character. He prepares food for the gang and he is also a likeable person.

Tamako and Miya were both interesting characters and I like the way how they support Seishu in what he does.

I also did like most of the cast but none of the stand out compared to the characters that I have mentioned. I wish these characters would at least have some development so that I can give them the better recognition.

CONCLUSION (10):

This anime broke my heart for the 1st time I watched because I felt for the characters. This anime also teaches us a lot of quotes like

"A hero lies in everyone"
"Everyone has different talents"
"Learning is a journey, not a destination"

Learning is a journey, and because we learn and develop by observing our mistakes and learn from there. Especially when it comes to criticism. If we want to become better, we have to take criticism so that we can improve and become better persons in the near future.

I will never regret watching Barakamon. I enjoyed this anime to the fullest. I love the comedic moments and the emotional moments this anime has bundled together. The chemistry and bond between characters are strong and I love this anime to death. Barakamon will forever stay true in my heart and so I give this anime a 10/10. 2 thumps up.

If you love slice-of-life, please watch this anime. You will feel all the emotions in this anime.
