No Game No Life is an anime about a duo, brother and sister, who are NEETs and completely own everything in the game world that they are suddenly tossed into, by this dude called 'Tet'. But the specifics aren't important, let's jump straight into why this anime is downright awesome but makes absolutely no sense at all.

Story: 6/10

The entire plot is actually not very deep, but to be fair, it only had 13 episodes to it, and I'm expecting a sequel so I can't say much about how complete it is. The originality behind it though, simple genius. The anime at first may not seem to take itself seriously with all the ecchi scenes, which I do find unnecessary, but when it comes to the type of games being played, this script really shines. If you appreciate the science (and art) behind game theory and mechanics, you will absolutely love the story and the type of games going on in this anime.

Where it falls short, however, is of course, that the anime doesn't actually seem to be heading in any purposeful direction other than "I want to beat God". But I guess, that's fine for me since it's only 13 episodes. I can't say there are any plot twists, because everything is predictable except for exactly how the main characters win. And when you figure out how they win you'll just either be blown away or just dumbfounded (and slightly cheated) by the way Blank wins almost every single game.

I have to minus points for the fact that although the plot was really shining in the first few episodes, when it came to the part about the Reversi game with Kurami, they completely glossed over exactly how Blank managed to beat Kurami in reversi anyway. Suddenly we see Shiro placing 3 pieces in a row (in this game I thought it was turn-based?) and somehow winning the game despite being unable to even see the board.

Another major draw back was that in the end, the method in which they defeated the "ultimate game" was slightly too far off to believe it would actually work. Even if Shiro could calculate, it doesn't mean she had absolute knowledge about the scripts that the game was running on, so that didn't make much sense. And even if that could happen, there was completely no telling that they would arrive at the final destination at the exact timing in which the fox girl powered down.

Art: 10/10

Amazing. The art is just simple amazing. You can describe it with just one word "Rainbows." Everybody is a rainbow, and the character art, background art is just beautiful. I never knew there were so many colours in the world until I watched this anime. The visuals are simply stunning.

Sound: 8/10

OP anime theme is downright awesome. It's upbeat, exciting, everything you want in it. Background music excels in this anime, gets everything hyped up especially within the games. As for, the ED theme, it was pretty decent as well.

Character: 7/10

Unfortunately, as enjoyable the Blank combination is as a character, and as awesome as they are, I have to minus points for the fact that every other character is basically being outplayed and outclassed by Blank, leaving little room for growth or depth in character development. Still, it was 13 episodes long, so that's understandable in every way. I absolutely love the main character though, everyone else just seems to get horribly sidelined, and I wish I could have seen more of their impact on the game. Also, Blank is quite imbalanced as a character, and literally can calculate in supercomputer proportions and seemingly impossible theorems.

Enjoyment: 9/10

Pacing and everything is just right in the anime. It's exciting, it gets you hooked from the get-go, and the only thing that may turn viewers down is that they explain it a bit too fast, so some viewers may have to end up rewatching or pausing at the explanation several times before they get it, but it was pretty decent for me. Most of the laughs came out of just fanservice though, but I enjoyed the games they were actually playing. (The one they played with Jibril was notably quite hilarious).

Overall: 7/10

Unfortunately, for a 13-episode anime, I cannot give it an overall rating above 8 because it just doesn't bring enough depth to the table. But still, a very impressive anime, and the sequel is a must-watch!
