Mixed Feelings
With the first episode sparing no expense and getting to action quite quickly, this anime will greatly appeal to those who love a constant flow of action without being slowed down.

The story is really touch and go from the start. You are not really told anything about what just happened until first lot of destruction, subsides. As the anime goes on, more is explained about the world and what's going its viewer a better idea of the lore. It really does run through all the bad side effects of war, from start to end. From death by cross fire to pillage and even rape.

Being an anime that finished in the early new millennium, its art style isn't one to compare with today's animation styles. It lacks in decent facial expression and utilizes very simplistic cell shading throughout. Even for anime's of its time, its art style is still a bit lacking in captivating colors and scenery attention to detail.

Sound when talking ambient noise is relatively well used. However music wise, being for battles, suspense, etc. Is very much but a few pieces, recycled over and over again.

The main hero is very short lived in terms of character development. He doesn't change much at all and nor do you learn too much about his past in kendo or even in general life. The two heroines seem to be more open and change worthy than the others as towards the end they open up to situations to wouldn't have before. We still learn absolutely nothing about anyone's past, protagonist and antagonists alike

As for overall enjoyment it is rather thrilling to watch. To someone who doesn't know the details of a war zone it can come as quite a shock. For the others who do know what war is they will be quite pleased with how everything is actually set out and quite accurate.
