just try it. beautiful art style, somewhat reminiscent of samurai champloo. VERY different setting than most anime. i believe brazil. where naturally everyone speaks japanese. very engaging characters. the plot follows 2 polar opposites who at first share a common goal, but through their adventures and hardships they begin to understand each other and rethink what they really want. in this way (and in artform) i would liken this anime to samurai champloo (without the *common* goal part).

The character development is....slow; the first half of the titular pair doesnt show any truly meaningful emotional development till the very far into the series. but when it does occur, you grow to like them even more. the plot can also be confusing, with a VIP looking very similar to several others they run across and some convoluted side stories; but really, the plot is secondary to the character development, so this is somehow acceptable. what i mean to say is: watching the 2 main characters grow and bond seems to me the main goal of the anime; the story merely serves as a vehicle to guide this process.

Most, if not all, anime writers seem to be unable to create satisfying and meaningful endings. Michiko to Hatchin is.....well, doesnt exactly fail this expectation, but still by far has one of the better endings than most (still not fantastic, but not as horrid as most, i mean).

just give it a try. i very rarely am inspired to write a review for anything, but i was absolutely enthralled by this anime (by the end at least). its a journey in more ways than one, and youll be finding it harder and harder to not click "next episode" and go to bed already.
