just try it. beautiful art style, somewhat reminiscent of samurai champloo. VERY different setting than most anime. i believe brazil. where naturally everyone speaks japanese. very engaging characters. the plot follows 2 polar opposites who at first share a common goal, but through their adventures and hardships they begin to understand each other and rethink what they really want. in this way (and in artform) i would liken this anime to samurai champloo (without the *common* goal part).
The character development is....slow; the first half of the titular pair doesnt show any truly meaningful emotional development till the very far into the series. but
...
when it does occur, you grow to like them even more. the plot can also be confusing, with a VIP looking very similar to several others they run across and some convoluted side stories; but really, the plot is secondary to the character development, so this is somehow acceptable. what i mean to say is: watching the 2 main characters grow and bond seems to me the main goal of the anime; the story merely serves as a vehicle to guide this process.
Most, if not all, anime writers seem to be unable to create satisfying and meaningful endings. Michiko to Hatchin is.....well, doesnt exactly fail this expectation, but still by far has one of the better endings than most (still not fantastic, but not as horrid as most, i mean).
just give it a try. i very rarely am inspired to write a review for anything, but i was absolutely enthralled by this anime (by the end at least). its a journey in more ways than one, and youll be finding it harder and harder to not click "next episode" and go to bed already.

Clannad after story is not the cute, innocent Clannad that you have watched and loved (i sure hoped you watched it, otherwise after story will make very little sense to you). It shows the same characters in a new light, after their slice of life school lives (which notably happens extremely rarely in anime). Some of them are forced to grow up, maybe a little too quickly.
After story makes a huge u-turn from its prequels central slice of life genre and dives straight into tragedy. And after watching the 20+ episodes in the first season, you will have no doubt formed an emotional connection
...
with the characters that will make after story a truly jarring experience. The author does an amazing job of making you feel pain and loss along with the characters. In Clannad, i was just observing some kids having fun. In after story, I felt like i WAS the main character, and felt the exact same emotions he did. At one point, when the main character was on the verge of giving up all hope, i stopped watching for a while because i was just so shaken by the story and just wanted to cry for a while. But anyway, theres not much of a point of me writing this review; if you watched the first season, youre definitely going to watch this one. and you might be so inspired that youll want to share your feelings on it too like this

Don't let the cover art or the fruity title deceive you. This is one of the most gripping tragedies you will ever experience. Multiple storylines are twisted together to form this experience, and they are slowly revealed to you as the show progresses, each time plunging you deeper into the hidden sadness of the characters. If you are like me, and you really get into animes and connect with characters and their emotions, this series will shake you to your core.
The development of one character in particular is superb to the point of being artwork (sounds corny, but you'll
...
agree if you watch it). The author perfectly communicates the characters feelings of frustration, anger, hopelessness, denial..... i don't want to say much more for fear of spoiling anything, but trust me, if you like tragedies, and not like "emotional roller coaster" stories, I mean TRAGIC tragedies (no ups and downs; its just straight down down down) watch this anime. The ending falls slightly short (like many anime endings are wont to do), but i think it has to end like that, but i wont say why cuz spoilers.
