Clannad after story is not the cute, innocent Clannad that you have watched and loved (i sure hoped you watched it, otherwise after story will make very little sense to you). It shows the same characters in a new light, after their slice of life school lives (which notably happens extremely rarely in anime). Some of them are forced to grow up, maybe a little too quickly.
After story makes a huge u-turn from its prequels central slice of life genre and dives straight into tragedy. And after watching the 20+ episodes in the first season, you will have no doubt formed an emotional connection with the characters that will make after story a truly jarring experience. The author does an amazing job of making you feel pain and loss along with the characters. In Clannad, i was just observing some kids having fun. In after story, I felt like i WAS the main character, and felt the exact same emotions he did. At one point, when the main character was on the verge of giving up all hope, i stopped watching for a while because i was just so shaken by the story and just wanted to cry for a while. But anyway, theres not much of a point of me writing this review; if you watched the first season, youre definitely going to watch this one. and you might be so inspired that youll want to share your feelings on it too like this
