School Days is your A-typical bad Harem series. One guy, lots of pretty girls, and a lot of pointless fanservice. I guess it's to be expected from an H-Game to have some fanservice. SD is just as trashy as harems get, Girls Bravo or Shuffle are others that come to mind, and yeah even Elfen Lied.

I started this series simply because I had read about it somewhere, and frankly I was expecting a lot more. Something to the quality of a show like Air from Kyoto Animation. But no, School Days is a long winded and very dull series that pulls a 180 on you at the last minute. Basically the first part is your typical high-school romance, then the second part is the main character sleeping around with every girl he can find, and then finally he gets stabbed to death by one of the girls he knocked up. That is all there is to School Days, a three act shallow chronicle of a guy who can't keep his hormons in check.

The creators certianly don't mind if you hate the guy for being an ass considering what happens in the end, which can be good for an ending like School Days. The one character you feel for is the girl he supposedly fell in love with to begin with, and when she goes a little crazy after she finds he's cheating on him. It's not entirely unrealistic to say a girl would act like that at all. What is incredibly unrealistic is the fact it seems EVERY girl in the school loves him. It's like a bad Mary-Sue filled fanfic. Ironically the series writer is named Makoto as well as the main male character.

The music is dull and unexpressed and occasionally can reach interesting in it's songs. Most of the songs and the themes are rather forgettable and don't really set the mood right. The only exception is the one played in episode 12, the only decent song.

The only thing that kept me going through this long and very boring series was the fact that I knew people were going to die. It's sad it took 12 episodes to finally do something. Even the idea of the infidelity was made boring in this series. There was barley any tension of if this main idiot will be caught cheating on his girlfriend or not. Half the time it dissolved into minor characters who come and leave just like that. I would even contest Higurashi is more interesting than this series, it was a long melodrama with little tension, little suspense. What was good about it? Simply enough the art. Though of course you had to give the small crazy one huge knockers which is as unrealistic as anything else in this series.

Two things redeemed this series, the ending and most of the art and animation. Other than that School Days is exceptionally boring. I will watch Kare Kano, and Higurashi before I ever watch this again.
