Please bear with this crappy review. I have little experience with romance Anime and no experience with writing reviews, so this will probably not the best or most informative review out here.
Also, ten years of English in school aren't enough.

Ef – A Tale of Memories is practically two bittersweet romances in one series.
One of the two is about Hiro who's biggest dream is to become a appreciated manga artist. He meets Miyako on Christmas Eve when she steals his bike.

The second story tells the story of Renji who meets a shy girl named Chihiro at an abandoned train station.

There's more behind that but I hate spoiling so this is all I want to tell.

I really loved how this Anime was animated. Seriously the style was awesome!
There are small cuts between scenes with seemingly meaningless things or words displayed.
They make no sense at first but they will fit perfectly as the story progresses.
The animation is fluid and I liked the colouring. It really matched the story and managed to catch the vibe of the anime.
I'm not a fan of those big eyes, but this is only my personal opinion.

Sound: 9
The soundtrack also matches the atmosphere of the show. It's not brash or flashy, more gentle and almost timid.
The Opening was very nice too.
But since it definitely is a good soundtrack there wasn't anything outstanding, so I will give it a 9.

Story: 9
As I said before, I'm not really experienced with romance Anime so I don't have anything to compare it to.
But as far as I can say the story really captured me. And I'm quite sceptical when it comes to romance.. But really... I watched this in like 4 hours!
It is a little bit confusing at first because you won't make out who belongs to which story but after the second episode the confusion fades and you have a very fascinating Anime.
The pacing is good too, it isn't rushed but it isn't painfully slow either.

Characters: 8
There are people who liked the story about Hiro and Miyako and there are people who do not.
The story itself was great too but Miyako's character didn't really managed to get me.
Also, this is a personal opinion. She is not a bad character I just didn't liked her that much.
Otherwise the characters are portrait brilliantly. They have their flaws and their strong sides, like people are supposed to be.
You will get attached to them really quickly.

Overall it was a nice surprise for me to find out that I can like romance Anime too.
It is outstanding in it's own way and really kinda cute so I give it a rating of:
9

Well, this was my first review and I would be glad if someone would find it helpful. If it's not, please tell me why.
