Kimi ni Todoke is the kind of show that's surprisingly good in spite of itself. It's so unbelievably cute you'd think everyone but the shoujo fans would steer clear of it. Yet it's rather appealing. My fourteen year old sister who usually dislikes too cute stuff (she disliked Lovely Complex, please) loved this show. It's because Kimi ni Todoke feels...fresh, and its characters are all likable, especially Kuronuma Sawako. She's so good and honest you'll like her even if she's dense and "oh my gosh what is this i'm feeling" -y kind of girl. Another thing I love about this anime is...the pace. The romantic pace between the main couple, I mean. It's very slooooooow...but you get to appreciate their conversations and you feel like they are really getting to know each other and falling in love beautifully. Watching them hesitantly walk the way to romance is much more delightful, then, say, "I just met you and this is crazy but I'm gonna kiss you and two episodes later we're renting a hotel room maybe" kind of anime. I HATE that kind of anime.
Although Kimi ni Todoke is great, it's still high school romance, though. If you don't like that kind of thing this show probably won't change your mind, though for those who like the genre, this is a true gem.
