Both series are quite relaxing. Both female leads are basically abandoned by their mothers at a young age. Therefore, both female leads initially hate their mothers. However, they realize that their mothers can be great sources of moral support and they don't have the worst intentions for their daughters. Both female leads also are thrown into an environment where they have to immediately figure out what they want to do. Both are thrown into a job that they're not really familiar with, but they do it anyway, and learn a lot from the process. I'd say Hanasaku Iroha has many more dramatic events than Ristorante
