the film had been lost for over four decades before a screener with a Japanese dub was found in 2009. when you put it in that context I guess Im glad I got to see it, the voice acting was ok,The story is a good one and entertaining.

In retrospect, Shin’s animated film is a delight to watch. Befitting of a national first, “The Story of Hong Gil-dong” makes sure to emphasize its origins to the last degree. The hand-painted backgrounds evoke watercolor paintings of Joseon-era architecture, nostalgic of the past. The neutral color design of muted yellows – likely a side-effect of the virtually non-existent budget that Shin had to work with – especially allows the carmine reds of the rich and the magistrates to pop, as they would have with traditional costume dyes.

There are two "reels" here.
The first takes up the majority of the run-time (more than 12 minutes).
It is a presentation of Animatics ("Pilot Animation") integrated with new techniques in CGI & Computer Assisted Workflows (employed in the production of Ghost In The Shell, and applied to Anime)* for a Concept that Mamoru Oshii wanted to develop, originally under the title G.R.M. The Record of Garm War.
It is a concept "pitch," developed with Bandai and Studio I.G, and completed in 1996.
The techniques carried over, and proceeding from ground-breaking work on Ghost In The Shell (1995), include:

It is a 1998 update on the live action techniques development,

The intention for G.R.M. was the development and integration of "live action," among other things (e.g. digital layering, computer controlled/assisted pixelation, physical and digital filter combinations, incorporation of 3D technologies & software being developed for video games, digital cinematography, applied physical, film, cell, and digital animation techniques for "special effects," digitally combining physically constructed miniatures and models with real life actors, action and special effects).
Following the 1998 update, the development of these techniques and planning of a full-feature test was begun.
It was released in January of 2001, and screened in March, out of competition at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, awarded "Best Cinematography" at the Catalan International Film Festival in Spain (2001), and in the United Kingdom, it won the "Best Film" award at Sci-Fi-London (2002).

Nonkuro is a dog-like-alien that comes to Earth for no apparent reason whatsoever but only to meet boy named Riki.
For a Knack's animation Nonkuro is very visionary and high-quality animation compared to the other works released on the Anime Kingdom -DVD. However, Nonkuro falls into Knack's usual problems by favoring violent scenes and weird face details. Also, it looks like Nonkuro was heading into a real story, like Akira and Taromu (leaving a cliffhanger to the end), but only getting no continuation.

Astroboy-copycat you say? Well, there's more.
Super Taromu was created in 1972 when Osamu Tezuka's studio Mushi Productions had financial difficulties and had to loose the copyrights of their characters. The President of Knack Productions, Kiyoshi Nishino had the same time an intention of "Super Taromu taking care of Astro Boy's dream", where he head for making a new commercially successful Astro Boy show. Due to Taromu's animation similarities with Chargeman Ken and Detective Boy Akira, "Chakenist's" have ridiculed Taromu as "poor man's Astro Boy". However, the BGM is completely different from Akira's BGM, which was diverted from the other existing Knack works. Since own theme

songs and BGM were made for Taromu, it can be seen that it was produced with a higher budget than other works on the Anime Kingdom -DVD.
Taku Sugiyama who participated in numerous Tezuka animations, such as Astro Boy, was in the Taromu's production staff. However, as a result of Sugiyama making this work without a compromise, the production period planned for one month spanned for two months, coming overbudgeted. Super Taromu was finished to a length of 23 minutes which for a pilot film is very unusual. Looking at Taromu's current length, it seems that Taromu was forcibly shrunk into about 10 minutes to make it a pilot film. This happened after the production staff alongside Sugiyama left Knack. It's unsure how serious Sugiyama was when making a 23-minute version of Taromu.
Above all reasons, anyone didn't attach to this work as much to buy it, causing end to Knack's "cash flow". After this incident, Toei Animation's work Jetter Mars went through the same process as Taromu, but was aired on TV in 1977. Astro Boy returned into broadcasters as a re-animated version in 1980. Super Taromu was released for the public decades later, as a part of Anime Kingdom -DVD.
Since similarities exist between Taromu's and Chargeman Ken's characters and their design, many have theorized Taromu been inspiration for Chargeman Ken! or even it's pilot episode.

Akira is an invincible detective boy that goes investigating the robbery of Mona Lisa. Quality animation from Knack Productions, released on Anime Kingdom -DVD. This is the real Akira, Katsuhiro Otomo can ski into spruces.
But what is this Anime Kingdom -DVD anyway? It's a DVD made by Anime Kingdom Ltd. which consists three Chargeman Ken! -episodes and three Knack's unreleased pilot films. Ironically, Anime Kingdom Ltd. has nothing to do with the company that produces all the DVD's animations, Knack Productions. Also it's unclear why the episodes 16, 50 and 51 were taken onto the DVD from all 65 Chargeman Ken! -episodes. Anime Kingdom -DVD

was published in 2008, which content got eventually into Nico Nico spawning a cult of Knack into japanese networks, Akira being the second popular anime from the DVD after Chargeman Ken.
Back to Akira: Akira's production time is unclear, however Mona Lisa was displayed for a period at Tokyo National Museum from April to June in 1974, the drawing style is very similar to Chargeman Ken! and the voice actors are same as in Chargeman Ken! and Dame Oyaji. Also, prime minister Kakuei Tanaka is in the animation the Prime Minister of Japan, who was resigned from his duty in December 1974. From this point, it is inferred that Akira was made around in summer of 1974.

fans may be familiar with ‘Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad,’ Harold Sakuishi’s long running series about a rock band. Prior to ‘Beck’s’ start in 1999, however, Sakuishi had already put out three separate series, their earlier styles almost unidentifiable to his more modern hit. In 1988, his debut work ‘Gorillaman’ began in Young Magazine, during a period when delinquent youth, or “yanki,” manga were a major subgenre within boys’ and mens’ anthologies.

construction site and hits the passerby flat on the head. As workmen rush to his side, we catch our first close look at the protagonist, whose facial features seem rather exaggerated. Was it a result of the accident, as I initially thought?
No, as it turns out, his face just happens to resemble that of a gorilla’s, hence the title. In fact, we quickly learn that he isn’t a salaryman or a gangster, but rather a student named Ikedo , who is transferring into Shiratake High School. Nicknamed “Gorillaman”.
Ikedo starts things off on the wrong foot just by being his usual self. He is completely mute, which frustrates faculty while making him a target of bullying among some students. While walking to his seat, Ikedo is tripped by Fujimoto, a more traditional looking yanki student who becomes a sort of secondary protagonist for the story.
The charismatic and sociable Fujimoto leads the “Fujimoto Corps,” a gang of various other fellow delinquents within the school. In many ways, Fujimoto fits the role of the goofy, good-spirited yanki protagonist,
Fujimoto tends to play the role of protagonist to a degree, with conflicts and romances centered mostly around him, while Ikedo falls into the background as seemingly just another follower.

This man is such a smart artist, with each scene having deep meaning! Here's my interpretation:
1. World Hunger: Notice how the person sees the food but can never have any of it?
2. Societies influences on females: How society wants women to be these skinny figures who eat nothing, and so when they do eat they eat in shame or guilt because they think its wrong to do so.
3. Food Waste: You see how every time a piece of the burger gets cut, it goes into the garbage?
4. Child obesity: The children worship the burger.
5. Greed: The only one that never eats is the last

person, perhaps symbolizing greed because the others never share.
6. Sort of like Greed again: Notice how only the top person gets the burger? This could symbolize how in businesses, you have so many people working and holding the structure of the company up but the only people that get anything are the people at the top (CEO).
7. Could symbolize how parents work so hard to feed their kids, and the children never realize what they have to go through.
The last one with the person watching the TV is just how corporations put things in ads to brainwash you into doing what they want you to do.

The OVA is a straightforward biography. Confucius(Confucius was one of the great philosophers of human history. The OVA was directed by the late Dezaki Osamu, who should need no introduction. He directed many famous anime, including Ashita no Joe and its sequel, Ace wo Nerae and its sequel, the Black Jack OVAs and movie, half a dozen Lupin III TV specials, and Kasei Yakyoku, an Orphan release. His visual trademarks - split-screen scenes, stark lighting, and detailed freeze frames that he called "Postcard Memories"- are on full display in this movie.
Eiyuu Banka Koushi-den sheds a warm and positive light on one of the great thinkers in human history, one much less well known in the west than his near contemporary, the Buddha. You can get the movie from the usual torrent site.
