Hello.
I'm Minynhwa, which is a different spelling of my Korean name.
It is also the name of my Tumblr, so uh *wink wink wink*
Anyways, I'll tell you how I got introduced to anime.
The beginning of last year (around February) I became friendly with a Korean peer who introduced me to Kpop and the Korean culture in general, and I became OBSESSED WITH IT.
While scrolling through Kpop videos, interviews with important TV shows, and Kpop reviews (such as simonandmartina) I stumbled upon my first anime I'd ever watch.
Kaichou Wa Maid-sama
I know, I know, it's pretty hard to imagine me watching this if you knew me well. I finished this anime in about 5 days.
For the rest of that school year and the following summer, I forgot about anime all together.
Now, the beginning of September, I reunited with an old friend from years ago. I'm sure I'd be whipped to death if I said his/her name or gender, but his/her account on MyAnimeList is ZyReijin. When we started talking again, he/she was into DeathNote. I easily was able to borrow the manga and return it, and in that winter alone I finished the manga and watched every video about L and Mello.
This is also how I got hooked on reading fanfictions. I tried to write one once, but when I submitted it I didn't do it correctly. Also, I had already lost the written version. I made a new one a couple months ago, but I wasn't happy with it and Zyreijin took it.
After watching so many animes, of course, I started drawing already existing characters or make up my own. I practice hard every day, wanting this to someday be my profession.
Anyways, I got sucked into the Japanese culture, well, actually everything Japanese. I would definitely be someone who would be caught dead in Tokyo.
But ah-hah! I didn't forget about Korea. I'm slowly learning the language whenever the chance arises, and hooked onto Korean Indie, Kpop and Jrock. (Which made me ecstatic listening to Mine by Kim Jaejoong, it was a mixture of both Kpop and Jrock.)
Oh yeah and one critical piece of information, I'm not the least bit Asian.
Although I get asked daily "Why do you listen to this?" "Do you hate America?" or "You don't even know what those guys are saying, do you?" I seriously don't care.
My parents support me with this, and even get me Asian quilts or Japanese candy if they are in a good enough mood.
*gasp of air* WELL THEN. I surely do hope that's enough information about my and how I got sucked into the vortex of anime and Asian culture
Thank you~
