Sorry for the late reply, I don't have WiFi and my mobile data are inconsistent at best. Since you've pretty much only watched shounen shows and some super popular things from other genres here and there, I'll try to rec you things that you may like but are outside that range.
The first thing I'm going to recommend you is Dennou Coil. Dennou Coil is a Sci-Fi anime about some children in a world where a developing virtual reality technology is getting implanted everywhere. In that context, the mc goes to a new city where she will play with that as you discover how things work in there. And that's before the plot thickens. If you want, you can also this anime for the children mc challenge, since there are no less than 5 children main characters.
My second recommendation will be Hyouka. Hyouka is a slice of life anime. It doesn't focus on the plot, and you shouldn't expect big surprises in it, focusing on character building and development instead. With its great character design, including a relatable main character, and mystery parts as well as romance elements, it's a good entry point to slice of life anime.
The third and final recommendation is Haikyuu!!. Haikyuu is an extremely well known sports anime. Apart from its slight yaoi baits and shoujo-ish characters, which have their public, it's a really solid anime with a structure similar to what you'd find in a shounen (including a tournament arc). With distinct characters and attention to detail, it's a good introduction to both sports anime and other type of characters not often found in the anime you usually watch.
I hope that you find whichever anime you pick interesting and helps you widen a bit your tastes. Good luck with your challenge, and feel free to tell me whether you liked your pick or not :D
