TLDR: Wonderful art and music, charming voice acting and characters, interesting story that's slowly opening up!
Wonder Egg Priority wasn't on my radar at all this season. With anime returning like AoT, Slime, The Promised Neverland, Dr. Stone, Re: Zero, and new anime like Horimiya and Jobless Reincarnation, I'd never heard of Wonder Egg until today. But damn, I'm glad I did.
Story: 8/10
The story presents itself as the characters are introduced. As we're introduced to the girls, we learn more about the other world the story takes place in and we learn more about how the girls found themselves there. It's like a mystery that
...
cuts into itself, slowly revealing more and more layers as we cut deeper into it.
There are definitely some psychological aspects that I hope they explore more. Even though they didn't do that as much, I'm confident they will just because of how well everything else is handled.
The fantasy aspect feels fantastical. It draws you in with just how vivid it is. The fourth episode especially, with the atmosphere they were creating around the story, I didn't realize 20 minutes had passed until the ending rolled around.
This is genuinely a story you can lose yourself in.
Art: 9/10
The art is just wonderful. It reminds me of some work done by studio Trigger and Bones. The action fight scenes are fluid and colorful. The individual character designs are very distinct, which coupled with the voice-acting, just oozes cuteness and charm.
Sound: 9/10
The music in the show is straight-up phenomenal. It demands your attention and sucks you into the scene. Other times, it feels like it shouldn't work, but it totally does and it gives a moment a new angle that you didn't think was there. The opening and endings are both great as well.
Character: 8/10
The characters are some of the most charming characters I've seen in a while. They each carve themselves out in the story and even if some elements aren't exactly original, they're well-executed and it's amazing.
The voice-acting is phenomenal. All the girls imbue this energy into their characters that make them feel alive, that makes the worlds they're traversing alive. It's something else when the characters give life to everything else, but that's exactly what's done here.
All the girls are charming and cute in their own way and the contrast of that with some of the darker themes of the show is just fascinating.
Enjoyment: 8/10
I thoroughly enjoyed these first four episodes and I'm so excited to see where the show goes from here. CloverWorks really hit it out the park with this and I hope they continue the work they're doing on this series. If they do, this will probably be one of my recent favorite anime!
