My anime/manga ratings are an average score based on things such as: story complexity, character depth, writing, themes, originality, comedy, audiovisual presentation (art, animation, paneling, soundtrack, direction, voice acting, sound effects etc.) and pure enjoyment and entertainment.

Most of these aspects hold the same value to me. For example, even if a show has a good story, characters, animation etc., my final rating can be lower if I find the comedy unfunny and awkwardly timed. On the other hand, I can enjoy even a clearly imperfect show more if it was simply entertaining.

I rate anime on a 5 star scale (taken from AniList, so MAL will show it on a decimal scale):

★ = Just bad.
★ ★ = Not a fan of this one. Has some good parts or cool ideas, but overall pretty flawed or boring.
★ ★ ★ = Overall positive score. Isn't groundbreaking, but is enjoyable.
★ ★ ★ ★ = Very good. I did enjoy it a lot and can easily recommend.
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ = Fantastic. Flaws can be found, but the positives heavily outweigh them. Loved it.

When putting an multiseason anime into my favourites, I always mark the first season as favourite, even though I mean the entire show as a whole.

Sometimes, when switching from anime to manga, I don’t always go back and re-read the part that I’ve seen, instead I’ll just mark those chapters as read. Because of that my profile stats might be inflated.
