As a long-time fan of Junji Ito’s work, I had high hopes for the Uzumaki anime adaptation. Junji Ito is a master of horror, creating a world where the eerie and grotesque blend into something truly terrifying yet mesmerizing. His unique style and storytelling are unparalleled in the horror genre, and Uzumaki is one of his most iconic and haunting works. Naturally, the excitement to see it come to life on screen was immense.
The first episode of the anime delivers everything you’d hope for: the creepy atmosphere, stunning art direction that pays homage to Ito’s intricate line work, and an unsettling tension that leaves you
...
on edge. It was clear that the budget for the first episode was well-spent, making it a near-perfect introduction to the horror that spirals out of control. It truly felt like I was stepping into one of Ito’s pages—disturbing, hypnotic, and beautifully dark.
But sadly, that’s where the praise stops. After the first episode, it feels as though the budget and attention to detail start to spiral downward. The quality noticeably drops, and it’s heartbreaking to see such a beloved work falter after such an impressive start. It’s as if all the effort and care went into the initial episode, leaving the rest of the series to suffer from lackluster animation and pacing.
I can’t help but feel that Uzumaki deserved more consistency, and it’s frustrating to see the potential of Junji Ito’s masterpiece get lost in what feels like a rushed or uneven production. The first episode set such a high bar, but the subsequent ones don’t quite capture the same eerie magic.
That being said, for fans of Junji Ito, the adaptation is still worth checking out, if only for that first episode and the chance to experience his world in a new medium. It’s just a shame the whole series couldn’t maintain the quality it started with. Hopefully, future adaptations will give Ito’s work the justice it deserves.

From the moment I started watching this anime, I was completely mesmerized by the animation. It scratches a special place in my brain that I didn't even know existed. The art style is absolutely breathtaking, and while I can totally see how some people who enjoy anime may not like this type of animation, I absolutely love it. There's something incredibly immersive about it that makes me feel like I'm being teleported to another world every time I watch an episode.
I'm extremely excited about the story, which is a feeling I haven't had in a while with an anime. It's oddly giving me Nana vibes,
...
reminiscent of the emotional depth and character-driven storytelling that Nana delivered so beautifully. The characters are complex, and the plot has a captivating blend of drama and intrigue that keeps me on the edge. Recommend!!
Overall, this anime has quickly become one of my favorites this season. I can't wait to see how the story unfolds and where the characters' journeys will take them. If you're looking for something with a unique visual flair and a gripping narrative, I highly recommend giving this one a try!

A mesmerizing blend of breathtaking visuals and an intriguing storyline that defies expectations. This anime, with its fever dream animation style, transports viewers into a world where reality bends and twists in the most captivating manner imaginable.
At its core lies an extremely interesting premise that immediately draws you in. The concept of this, sort of, "time reversal", when it comes to city turning back to nature and the transformation of individuals into animals is both fascinating and thought-provoking. It's a narrative direction that feels refreshingly original and can be very relevant if we are looking into what has come of our technology, even in
...
the span of the last 5 years and how fast it's evolving. A scary, but an interesting thought.
It's a thematic journey full of melancholia that echoes the sentiments of acclaimed series like 'A Place Further Than the Universe' and 'Girls' Last Tour, yet maintains its own unique identity.
Moreover, I find myself eagerly anticipating the further development of the story.

An anime from 1931! Yes, you heard that right!
I'm such a sucker for very old anime, it brings me a feeling of deep nostalgia for the times long before I was born. Everyone can sh*t on the animation and the length all day long, but for that period of time, this is fascinating. I had a great time watching this short movie.
Never forget, it was THESE types of movies that caved the way for all the stuff you like now.
Don't forget them and don't leave them underappreciated. It's easy to laugh or say something is bad when you are viewing it 92 F*ING years
...
later. Can you fathom how cr*zy that is?
The beautiful purple color is haunting and the song is beautiful. I enjoyed it very much and would rewatch it again for sure.

Words can't describe how in love I'm with this type of animation. It's like a beautiful explosion of childhood nostalgia (reminds me a lot of the games we used to play in the early 2000's)
It's very short (only 3:20 min) , and a great thing to watch if you suffer with anxiety and need to cheer up or get your thoughts somewhere else.
The music is also good and matches the colorful characters and cute backgrounds perfectly. It's an unique piece that i wish i could see more of.
The only things that it lacks is more of a storyline, but since it's a music video,
...
it's not something that you can seriously judge. I just wish it lasted longer, or we could even get a show based on this aesthetic.

I'm so shocked to see that this beautiful piece hasn't gotten the recongition it deserves, but, on the other hand, I'm very happy that I will be the first one to review it.
A story follows a small village in Asia, where there lives a family of farmers. Neither of them know how to read or how to write.
Later throughout this short movie we follow Mina (the wife/mother), as she tries to find the hospital to refill her husband's medicine (that later turns out to be pesticide)
Before reaching the clinic, Mina faces a huge amount of humiliation, fear and confusion, which is a sad reality for
...
many people who were in the unfortunate situation to never get the chance to become literate.
This piece also subtly hints at other probles (husband first being so against the idea of his children or Mina going to the school, saying stuff like „What about the farm?” or „Why would you want that when you have this and that…”, also hinting that everyone will laugh at her cause she is "too old" and "it's too late for her"
Only later he really comes to a realization of how important being literate is in today's world just when it comes to money (they were getting taken advatage off every day by people selling them fruits and overpricing them)
Which all subtly hints at the opression that (especilly) poor women face.
At the end, Mina decides to face her fears and after crying about how frustrated she is because of the judgement she faced and how unprotected she felt she decides to attend the village school.
After that, we see that the school is attended by many people of "older" age, which is beautiful and encouraging, since there is never such thing as "being too old" when it comes to learning, bettering yourself and going against the cards that "the life has dealt you."
This is a beautiful story I would recommend to anyone, of any age, because it shines the light on a big problem (ignored by a huge portion of people) which is illiteracy (in this case focused on Asia and the Pacific, but can be related to any other country with this problem in the world)
There are many "hidden" important messages in it, such as the comment that the teacher made to women learning to write and read, („You don't want to sign something you know nothing about) which is a huge problem in many countries (especially where the husband "takes the lead" and uses woman's illiteracy to his advantage (example: signing surrogacy papers))
There are many instances where it is shown how vile and impatient people are with iliterate people, which is something a lot of us turn the blind eye on.
The animation is interesting and warm, as expected from something that came out in the 1992, many would say it's nothing special, but i personally enjoy this animation style very much, since it brings me a lot of nostalgia.
All in all, don't sleep on this. It's a beautiful piece that shouldn't be pushed to the side.

This is one of those animes that I watched until the end for the sole purpose of sh*tting on them. In short, If you were to put every f*cked up, disgusting, misogynistic, vile male fantasy into one thing, you would get this piece of cr*p. The plot is just an extremely st*pid excuse for the t0rture p0rn that they really wanted to put out, but I guess wanted to make more coin out of it so they made it have somewhat of a (laughably st*pid, by the way) storyline.
You are somehow supposed to symphatize with the main character who suffered a terrible fate and is
...
now out to get revenge on all of the vile people that wronged him. Sure. The only thing that he does ocasionally is just r4pe women and show no signs of humanity towards anyone. Amazing, right? The only friend I really remember he showed any kind of human decency to died a terrible death and all we got from the main character is a 2 second scene of him putting flowers on his grave and then laughing like a maniac (always a hard watch, he does that a lot) about how he could never get "soft" and wants the whole world to be his, or some other bullsh*t in those lines. He is exactly like the people he is trying to get revenge on. Buying a girl as a slave, oh what a kind gesture, right? He must did it because he wanted to help her? Oh no, he did it just so she can be his "tool" (his words that he uses for women, no matter if they did anything bad to him or not) and have violent s*x with her, while also forcing her (khm, khm, r4pe?) to do it with the other girl, which she clearly didn't want. I'm extremely concerned for people who rated this 5 or higher, f*ck, even 2 or higher, but I assume it's just a bunch of h0rny, misogynistic, tasteless m0therf*ckers who are sadly in the majority when it comes to watching shows like this one. If it wasn't this disturbing, it would be funny. Still is honestly, because of some of you who actually get off on stuff like this. People like that always make me laugh.

Initially, what attracted me to Gankutsuou, was the idea of an Anime version of Alexandre Dumas' "Le Comte de Monte Cristo," but upon seeing the previews, I fell in love with the whole concept. The art, to say the least, is breathtaking, if not revolutionary; to that, the animation is flawless as well - one can only guess at the expense that went into creating such a visual marvel. While Gankutsuou doesn't follow Dumas' story as religiously as some would have it, what is important is that Dumas' intent in the story was held sacred. All too often is Edmond Dantes portrayed as being right
...
in his quest, a true hero; nothing could be farther from the truth. Dumas' Dantes was a Satanic Hero like no other, if only perhaps Heathcliff from Bronte's "Wuthering Heights." Cruel, malicious, and bloodthirsty, Dantes is one with whom the audience is meant to sympathize and pity, while at the same time despise passionately. We can understand his motives, even support them, though we know innately we shouldn't condone them; Dantes is, in his truest nature, the incarnation of both ultimate love and ultimate hate, and was Dumas' tool to show that there is little difference betwixt the two. Gankutsuou stays true to this endeavor of Dumas' in all ways. The Count is everything he was in the novel - to both men and women, he held an (for lack of a better term) erotic visage about himself, something men wanted to aspire to, and women fell to. Frigid, calculating, with a gift to bend the wills of others, Dantes proved that one who has nothing to lose, yet does not allow himself to sink into depression (but rather finding purpose for your life) and thus has no fear of death or repercussions at all, is the most alluring; people are drawn to such darkness, such demonic power. But the beauty of this story doesn't stop simply at the creation of the ultimate sinister character - to create such a character is simple; what Dumas did, and Gankutsuou respected and embellished upon, was that despite the obvious horrific nature of the character, his reasons for being so are understandable. Aristotle said that one cannot create a truly tragic character without establishing fear and sympathy within the audience first; without Catharces, tragedy has no impact. While watching the story of Gankutsuou unfold, we begin to wonder if we, too, aren't capable of such atrocities, especially if under similar conditions. In our society, we sympathize with, if not often condone secretly, crimes of passion; but to what extent can we stretch out sympathy? Perhaps revenge of this nature is too extreme, that the Count is wrong in his hellish plans; but if we were betrayed by our best friend in so horrible a manner, who can say that, given the opportunity, we would not do the same, if not worse? Sympathy we have for Edmond's position; but fear becomes the all-consuming emotion we have while watching this, as we come to realize the extent of the atrocities we ourselves are capable of, given the chance and motive for them. For any Anime fan, or for any fan of cartoons or Dumas' works, Gankutsuou is by far one of the most astounding pieces you will ever see: true to the nature of the book like no other screenplay has been, and breathtaking in its visual nature, and musical score (opening theme not withstanding), Gankutsuou is a must-see, a beautiful testament to the power of hope and love, as well as an unmatched plunge into the darkest parts of the human soul.

Shiki is a piece that treats Vampire Culture differently than you would expect in western cinematography, providing a deeper insight to personality afflicted by eternal living, and slowly pulling you inside a questioning of human soul and nature. Can you be corrupted life form that has usual wish to pursue happiness? Can you be "normal" life form, but still be cruel and evil, selfish and a beast? This is not just an anime about vampires, this is a piece that slams big questions about life in your face without hesitation. Are you a traitor if you cherish and accept every person as they are cut
...
out to be, and why do we have to choose sides from the start of mankind's existence, determined to root-out everything we assume to be different from ourselves? Is it just the fear of death that turns us into animals, or it's life as we imagine it just a mask behind which a beast slumber...
Shiki will not provide answers, but it may make you think a bit deeper about human nature.
